Historia
They were known as the Mitford sisters: Nancy, Pamela, Diana, Unity, Jessica and Deborah. Born into country-house privilege in the early years of the 20th century, they became prominent as 'bright young things' in the high society of interwar London. Then, as the shadows crept over 1930s Europe, the stark - and very public - differences in their outlooks came to symbolize the political polarities of a dangerous decade.

A slow burner
Revisado: 02-02-22
To start with I wasn’t sure I would be able to endure the whole book. Part one was a little too gushy and adoring for my taste and not very factual. Also at times throughout there were elements of it being like a school-like, literacy analysis of books by the Mitfords comparing to their lives. All being said, I persisted and ultimately got very invested and interested. If you’re interested in British social history of the first half of the 20th Century then this is for you. The Mitfords are a fascinating topic. Overall, actually very enjoyable.

Historia
Anne Glenconner reveals the real events behind The Crown as well as her own life of drama, tragedy and courage, with the wonderful wit and extraordinary resilience which define her. Anne Glenconner has been close to the Royal Family since childhood. Eldest child of the 5th Earl of Leicester, she was, as a daughter, described as 'the greatest disappointment' by her family as she was unable to inherit. Her childhood home, Holkham Hall, is one of the grandest estates in England. Bordering Sandringham, the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were frequent playmates.

An incredible insight
Revisado: 12-05-21
This book was so much more than I imagined. I always love when they’re narrated by the original others and Lady Anne Glenconner did not disappoint. Her incredible life story is so well pieced together in this book giving a great insight into her first hand dealings of the who’s who of society in the last 70 years. Her own, personal life story is also extremely interesting, moving and honestly written. A great listen overall!
