Historia
In Drug Use for Grown-Ups, he draws on decades of research and his own personal experience to argue definitively that the criminalization and demonization of drug use - not drugs themselves - have been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country's enduring structural racism. Dr. Hart did not always have this view. He came of age in one of Miami's most troubled neighborhoods at a time when many ills were being laid at the door of crack cocaine. His initial work as a researcher was aimed at proving that drug use caused bad outcomes.

Historia
Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. I loved the story but despised the narrator! I'm almost stopped listening so mamy times. it was often painful
to listen to. Overall, I'm glad i powered through but maybe consider just reading this one.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

I really wanted to like it..warning spoilers
Revisado: 08-25-22
I bought this book because I wanted to hear the continuation of the story after yelliw crocus. However, I really came to struggle with the accuracy of the story which I feel is vital when writing a historical novel. I'm sure none of us like to see our hero or heroine do things in a time period that would be frowned upon now, but I really question that there wasn't a bit more of a racial divide between the characters. Jordan especially felt more like a time traveler as she was seemingly unaware of the racial injustice of the time. though I understand she may not understand the extent of it, it's hard to believe it completely disappeared a few hundred miles away. finally and perhaps most annoying was the multi faceted and complex conversations that Lizbeth had with her children. I really struggled to believe that children so young would have been capable of these kind of conversations, questions and nuances within her family dynamic. And I would have much preferred some reconciliation and healing in the relationships than the blatant us vs them attitude. so much was also hinted at but left unsaid, Julianne's pain from trying to fill a role that couldn't be filled. her father's regrets. Her mother's insecurity. so many loose ends.. I completely understand after having read yellow crocus wanting to continue, But maybe check with the library before wasting on credit on it.

Historia
Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

the story was captivating, if not a little predictable but I thoroughly enjoyed listening, laughing and crying with the characters. the narrator did an awesome job. Her different voices for the characters really brought them to life.

"It was a beautiful, breezy, yellow-and-green afternoon..." This is how Abby Whitshank always begins the story of how she fell in love with Red that day in July 1959. The Whitshanks are one of those families that radiate togetherness: an indefinable, enviable kind of specialness. But they are also like all families, in that the stories they tell themselves reveal only part of the picture.

I love these books!
Revisado: 09-21-20
These books are amazing and so thought provoking, especially with the current events in our world. I read them many years ago but relistened after A tale of Songbirds and Snakes was released. I wish I could give it 5 starts but My one complaint was with the narrator. Everything about her voice is just wrong. I truly wish they would have stuck with the narrator from catching fire who I felt truly emodies Katniss and sounds around the same age as well. It didnt stop me from continuing the story but if I had to do it again I think I would just read them so I didn't have her voice grating on my nerves..

what an awful depressing story
Revisado: 12-11-19
This is my second book by this author and I really struggle with his writing style. the overuse of the word "and" and the stringing together of so many sentences make me a bit crazy. Overall I really wanted to enjoy the book, I did like the storytelling of the main characters was interesting but it was just depressing. The extended network of the two main characters are rather awful and leave you with a less than pleasant outlook on humanity.
