I have been on a run of biographies recently. Some are disappointingly bland, some entertaining. I must admit that I had little hope of this book being a "keeper", let alone something that rated five stars. How much life and introspection could a middle aged man bring to his biography? And I was concerned about listening to an accent for several hours. I often judge a book, not by its cover, but by how often my thoughts return to the book after i have finished the end credits. Beyond the Wand is a winner across the board, in my opinion. Mr. Felton is an outstanding narrator who describes his entry into the world of Harry Potter in a captivating way. And,although he never stoops to the common practice of bashing his fellow actors, his descriptions of many fellow cast members are entertaining and endearing rather than bland. He offers up praise to all for their unique attributes, and ugly gossip to none. However, it is Mr.Felton's description of his difficulties with fame and the foibles that often accompany such fame that makes this book one to purchase and listen to at least once. Perhaps twice. His completely honest and no holds description of how he reached his lowest point and recovered his true self will resonate with anyone who has lost their way. A pleasant surprise that I would recommend to any HP fan, any Tom Felton fan or anyone interested in an honest biography of an actor.

I purchased this audiobook after the author's recent win in the Ohio political arena. I wanted to learn more about J.D. Vance and his views. His honest writing about his childhood and adult life, along with his analysis of the socio-economics that plague much of Appalachia, was very thought provoking. Although not in the same region of the country, my childhood was similar, and I have lived in the south for over forty years. It is disheartening to know how little has changed. I disagree with another reviewer, who claimed that the author offered no solutions to the problems he described. Vance offers many solutions, but the solutions require hard work to achieve change, and a government handout won't be enough. I recommend this audiobook to anyone who is seriously interested in understanding "hillbillies".

I enjoyed this audiobook very much, but I think if you are a student of music and how songs are brought to life from idea to album, this one is for you. This is much more than a biography, it is a glimpse into the life and art of Paul Simon across the decades.

This was both an interesting journey through recent history and an insight into the author.
