Historia
A brief encounter that could have become so much more...if only everything were different. Step-sisters, bitter rivals in every area except one - by unbreakable pact neither will ever steal a man from the other. A love triangle that starts out as a mess of secrets and mix-ups, and only gets worse from there. Plus - friendship, family ties, crossed wires and self-discovery, second chances and first impressions. Welcome to Jill Mansell's blustery seaside world. Once you step inside, you'll never want to leave!

Couldn't wait for it to be over!
Revisado: 06-14-17
I have read or listened to (or both) every one of Jill Mansell's books & I've liked nearly all of them. This one, however, was not worth the credit. It was boring & predictable. And while I don't have an issue with having a gay character in the story, the lesbian love affair seemed forced & thrown in for some kind of interest (which failed miserably).
Really disappointing & I won't be rushing to get the next one!

Really enjoyed this!
Revisado: 04-08-17
I really enjoyed this story, as well as the narration by several different narrators. The only challenge, for me, was that there were a lot of stories going on simultaneously & that got a bit confusing at times. Overall, I think it was a great story and the characters were varied & interesting.

Good narrator, weak story
Revisado: 01-08-17
I don't expect a deep, complicated story with chicklit - but I do expect a good, entertaining story that has ups, downs & struggles that get worked thru. This book had some character conflicts that were resolved way too quickly & the whole thing just left me feeling bored, not entertained at all. Some mildly funny parts, but it all could've been much more interesting with better writing.

Great narrator, slow story
Revisado: 11-03-16
Colleen Prendergast is a great narrator, but this story was not great. It was slow & in parts it felt like the author was trying too hard to build intrigue (and it wasn't working). Didn't love it.

This is a really good story, full of interesting characters, lovely scenery and some unexpected twists. It's my first time reading a Helen Pollard book and I'll definitely be reading more from this author. Helen Johns did an excellent job with narration.

Love Jill Mansell, but this one isn't great
Revisado: 07-25-16
I've read (and/or listened to) nearly all of Jill Mansell's books and I love her style of writing. Her books always seems to fit a certain mood & are generally a lot of fun. This book, however, was really boring & overly predictable. There wasn't a lot of story-building or even laugh-out-loud moments. Disappointing.

Just not that interesting
Revisado: 08-16-15
I kept waiting for the story to kick in, but it didn't. It wasn't horrible, just not that interesting or even fun/funny. I got tired of the frequent vomit references "I was almost sick in my mouth" or "I tried not to be sick in my mouth", etc. Possibly funny to some people, but not to me. Narrator was fine, but I won't be seeking out anything further from Lindsey Kelk.

Absolutely loved this book!!
Revisado: 07-04-15
I've read all of Beth Harbison's books and have liked most of them. However, after being sorely disappointed with the last 2 that I read (When In Doubt, Add Butter & Chose The Wrong Guy, Gave Him The Wrong Finger), I was reluctant to spend a credit on this one. I'm thrilled to say that this book is Beth Harbison at her best - great story, as well as characters with depth that I cared about & could relate to. Orlagh Cassidy did an excellent job, as usual, as narrator. I definitely recommend Driving With The Top Down!

Loved the story, not the narrator
Revisado: 05-24-15
I've read, or listened to, all of Jill Mansell's books and I really like her style of writing. Although predictable at times, she delivers a good quality British chick-lit story & never disappoints.
I've never heard a narrator of Mansell's books that I didn't like - until now. This narrator's voice droned on in a very boring fashion, and some of her voices for the characters were not good at all. At one point a male & female couple both had some bizarre Irish-sounding accent that made it hard to tell one from the other (although it hadn't started out that way). She did, however, capture the American accent very well (something that doesn't always happen). I won't purchase any other audiobook with this narrator because instead of drawing you into the story, her voice was very distracting.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Excellent story & performance
Revisado: 08-05-12
This book is so thought provoking and beautifully written. It made me reflect on my life & how the choices I've made (or not made) along the way have shaped my own story. I loved the way the author went from the 1960's to present day and back again. It was done so well that it never seemed confusing.
I've listened to many, many audiobooks and Edoardo Ballerini is one of the most talented narrators I've ever experienced. His performance of this engaging story made everything really come to life.
This book touched me deeply and I will not soon forget it.
