Historia
September 1909, and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorpe’s country estate for a week of motor racing and parties. They both agree that it sounds like a perfectly charming holiday. But when one of the drivers dies in a crash during the very first race, they discover that what seemed like an uncharacteristic error in judgement may have a more sinister explanation...

Great visit with Lady Hardcastle and Flo
Revisado: 06-22-17
As usual a good story, this time mostly away from the village. But the real treat of these books is the dynamic between Emily and Flo. Strong recurring characters add to the fun. A fun read. Looking for to the next one.

Historia
Spring, 1909, and Lady Hardcastle, amateur sleuth and all-round eccentric, is enjoying a well-deserved rest. But a week after a trip to the cattle market, Spencer Caradine, a local farmer, turns up dead in the pub, face-down in his beef and mushroom pie. Once again, it is up to Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, to solve the case. Armed with wit and whimsy, not to mention Florence’s mean right hook, the pair set out to discover what really happened and why. Was it poison or just ill luck?

A fun detective duo
Revisado: 06-11-17
Light, fun , excellent writing. Lady Emily and Flo solve mysteries in the countryside, but it's really about the characters. They are a delightful pair with witty banter and skills that set them apart ( They have a mysterious past) The reader for the audio book is excellent as well.

A visit with Phryne
Revisado: 07-11-16
This book is rather thin on plot (& it's rather convoluted) but rich with details about Phryne's life. In my opinion, the ones based around home are the most enjoyable so this book fits the bill on that account.

Historia
A new year, 1917, is dawning, and the Great War that ravages the world shows no sign of abating. Answering the siren call of Egypt once more, Amelia Peabody and her family arrive at their home in Luxor to learn of a new royal tomb ransacked by thieves. Soon an even more disturbing outrage concerns the intrepid clan of archaeologists: the freshly and savagely slain corpse of a thief defiling the ancient burial site. Yet this is nothing compared with the lethal fate that threatens Ramses.

I listen to these books all the time. They never grow old, and even after all these years I'm still finding new layers. Elizabeth Peters ( Barbara Mertz) was an underrated writer.
