Historia
Born the runt of his litter and gambled away to a rusty old riverman, the Newfoundland pup Seaman doesn't imagine his life will be marked by any kind of glory - beyond chasing down rats. But when he meets Captain Meriwether Lewis, Seaman finds himself on a path that will make history. Lewis is just setting off on his landmark search for the Northwest Passage, and he takes Seaman along. Sharing the curiosity and strength of spirit of his new master, Seaman proves himself a valuable companion at every turn.

Great story about Lewis and Clark
Revisado: 10-27-21
This was a great story that actually taught a lot about the journey of Lewis and Clark. Our least favorite part was the narrator, it was just a little too disjointed and slow sounding.

Amazing story and narrator
Revisado: 10-14-21
Cristin Milioti did all SUCH a great job bringing this story to life with her many voices and accents. My kids and I loved this story and think Cristin was a superior narrator. The story is a great adventure, with interesting characters. There is a little bit of romance, but nothing too “gross” for younger kids, haha. My kids 8, 10, and 12 loved it. On to book 2!

Great story, great narrator, sound quality not fantastic
Revisado: 02-03-21
We all loved this story so much, but the narrator was difficult out to hear sometimes. His voice would go way too quiet and we kept turning it up and down, and that could’ve been better. We loved his voice otherwise. The story line was great, the character development engaging. We had lots of good conversations about this one!

Historia
For nearly a century, Victorian London relied on “climbing boys” - orphans owned by chimney sweeps - to clean flues and protect homes from fire. The work was hard, thankless, and brutally dangerous. Eleven-year-old Nan Sparrow is quite possibly the best climber who ever lived - and a girl. But when Nan gets stuck in a deadly chimney fire, she fears her time has come. Instead, she wakes to find herself in an abandoned attic. And she is not alone. Huddled in the corner is a mysterious creature - a golem - made from ash and coal. This is the creature that saved her from the fire.

My kids and I really enjoyed this book. It was fantastical yet grounded in reality, with great themes of friendship, courage, standing up for good, and also illustrated the realities of child labor. It prompted good conversations and was liked by young and old, the marks of a great book!

Sure to be a classic!!
Revisado: 10-23-20
I loved this book so much, perhaps even a little more than the first. The writing is excellent and doesn’t talk down to children’s intelligence, and the mark of a good book is both young and old love it. Our house ranges from 7-39 and we were all captivated and moved by the story and characters, as well as the theme of the importance of stories in the world. The narrator did an amazing job, and it was not only entertaining, but provided lots of good conversation as a family around themes of friendship, justice, standing up for what’s right, the importance of story and “nonsense”...just wonderful all around. We would love a third installment!

For Milo, everything’s a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through only because he’s got nothing better to do. But on the other side, things seem different. Milo visits the Island of Conclusions (you get there by jumping), learns about time from a ticking watchdog named Tock, and even embarks on a quest to rescue Rhyme and Reason. Somewhere along the way, Milo realizes something astonishing. Life is far from dull. In fact, it’s exciting beyond his wildest dreams.
