Historia
A new virus descended on the human species in 2019 wreaking unprecedented havoc. Nearly two years into the pandemic, the crucial mystery of the origin of SARS-CoV-2 is not only unresolved but has deepened. In this uniquely insightful book, a scientist and a writer join forces to try to get to the bottom of how a virus whose closest relations live in bats in subtropical southern China somehow managed to begin spreading among people more than 1,500 kilometers away in the city of Wuhan.

Built the arguments from the ground up
Revisado: 09-17-24
I quite enjoyed how the extended argument unfolded throughout the chapters. Tackling one major point after the other. Seemed to give the natural spillover hypothesis its due, even devoting an entire chapter to a concise defense. I’ve read a few books now on the start of the pandemic and I found this one to be the least overtly political. Mostly just focused on the scientists involved. While there is no direct evidence that a lab spillover occurred (technician testimony, more detailed analysis of lab worker health info), if said data was available, I’d bet it would prove the lab leak hypothesis.

Historia
Inequality is America’s biggest problem. Unions are the single strongest tool that working people have to fix it. Organized labor has been in decline for decades. Yet it sits today at a moment of enormous opportunity. In the wake of the pandemic, a highly visible wave of strikes and new organizing campaigns have driven the popularity of unions to historic highs. The simmering battle inside of the labor movement over how to tap into its revolutionary potential—or allow it to be squandered—will determine the economic and social course of American life for years to come.

Inspiring book - great author read
Revisado: 02-23-24
Compelling thesis 1) unions are the path for worker power 2) unions them selves need to invest more in organizing. This was driven home through a few character study’s all in the fastpased gawker style. Overall would highly recommend.
