Historia
An unnamed country is leaving the darkness of a decade at war, and to commemorate the armistice, the government commissions a new road connecting two halves of the state. Two men, foreign contractors from the same company, are sent to finish the highway. While one is flighty and adventurous, wanting to experience the nightlife and people, the other wants only to do the work and go home. But both men must eventually face the absurdities of their positions and the dire consequences of their presence.

I like this author, but I couldn’t finish this book. The author has created a very unlikable character and gave chapter after chapter of the same thing. A few of his books were quite enjoyable, not this one.

Well done, but hard to get past the glorification
Revisado: 12-25-22
Listening to the story it is obvious these kids had drive and stones but it is difficult to 'enjoy' once you remember the estimate of 164,000 murders attributed to El Chapo. These deaths includes innocent journalists, priests, politicians, families. Being 'rich 'business men' is one thing, but off of the backs of so many other. Listening to them complain about the hardships of wedding inconveniences is galling.
Not being able to move around freely - well the kids in the streets of Chicago, D.C, and L.A. could not play outside safely.
Kudos to the producers but I can't find much pity for their hardships.

After listening to six previous books, I was looking forward to this one. The narrator is just so disappointing. Her accents are exaggerated and off putting. Doubt I’ll finish this.

Was really disappointed by the numerous domestic violence and rape scenes. One would get the job done but it felt like they were non-stop. Just unnecessary for the story line.

The lion’s share of the book is the narrator reading emails. These are from folks that can’t write. It is tedious and awkward at best.

I have a major selection of true crime books, but I could not listen till this. It is well written as all Greg Olsen’s books are, but the grotesque brutality of this was so over to there was no way to listen to this.

Historia
Since its final episode aired in 2008, HBO's acclaimed crime drama The Wire has only become more popular and influential. The issues it tackled, from the failures of the drug war and criminal justice system to systemic bias in law enforcement and other social institutions, have become more urgent and central to the national conversation. But while there has been a great deal of critical analysis of the show and its themes, until now there has never been a definitive, behind-the-scenes take on how it came to be made.

A disappointment
Revisado: 04-05-18
The first chapter was pretty good. Somewhere in the middle of the second chapter the began whining because they were so under appreciated and they didn't have any critical acclaim. Every chapter after that was we 'we weren't noticed enough, we should've gotten awards, we were really, really good and nobody watched us.' 'We were ground breaking geniuses, but we weren't watch so nobody knew that we were special' If the'd edited out the whining it would have been ok. Hopefully the folks who participated in this book will listen to it and instead of feeling slighted, wrap their arms around how blessed they are to have a dream job, to do it well, and to get paid for it. The average human being is not near as lucky.
