Talking to key modern influences and thinkers, and drawing inspiration from the Bible and the historical experience of the Jewish people, Sacks argues that there are eight key factors in establishing, maintaining and passing on resilient moral values within a broad group, among them attitudes of lifelong learning and of thanksgiving, the importance of family life and community, and a culture of positive argument in place of destructive conflict.

Extremely insightful
Revisado: 09-13-23
For a long time I’ve been keeping a moral way of thinking that was based on what I think, on my choices, in a very Sartrian-postmodern way like most of the people I know. Rabi Sacks calls for a different way with much more benevolent outcomes.
I really enjoyed the sources that Rabi Sacks chose and how they were winded together into a coherent moral path that is relevant for anyone on this planet.

Very good lectures, very hard to visualize
Revisado: 12-07-22
From the lectures one can understand the main thermodynamics concepts and ideas from a very intuitive point of view. Ad a physics teacher, I am very much impressed by the teaching methods.
Nonetheless, after a few lectures it becomes very hard to visualize the graphs, demonstrations and equations from just hearing the lectures. I feel I only understood half of the content just because I missed many things that the original video shows.

Wars have played a crucial role in defining the United States and its place in the world. No one is better equipped to analyze this subject in depth than retired US Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark - decorated combat veteran, author, Rhodes Scholar, and former NATO Supreme Commander. In this course, Gen. Clark explores the full scope of America's armed conflicts, from the French and Indian War in the mid-18th century to the Global War on Terrorism in the 21st.

military history from a General's perspectice
Revisado: 01-23-19
as a non American military officer, the lectures were thrilling, teaching and thought provoking. the General's perspective was different from a regular history book, with deep insights on the conflicts and the way they were managed. I was reminded why I deeply respect the American people. I don't think that these lectures are fit for someone with no previous knowledge in military affairs or in American history. The pace is fast so to cover all the conflicts and their insights.

It was with Human, All Too Human, first published in 1878, that Nietzsche developed the aphoristic style that so suited his challenging views and uncompromising style. The text is divided into three main sections: 'Of the First and Last Things', 'History of the Moral Feelings' and 'The Religious Life'.

thrilling lectures sometimes not fit for beginners
Revisado: 09-17-18
thrilling lectures on the different genres of orchestral music and their rapid transitions durring the 20th cen., with many powerful historical insights. it is fit for listeners with solid music vocabulary.
not recommended before listening to "how to listen and understand great music". not fit for listening while driving, since all the music is linked and not played on lecture.
some links lead to tracks that no longer exist on YouTube, and it can be frustrating.

Historia
Over the last four centuries, a small group of thinkers attempted to answer a series of remarkably challenging questions: In a world having a history of untold suffering-especially, it seemed, for Jews-was the existence of an all-powerful and comforting God still tenable? What were the purpose and meaning of Jewish practices and customs? Could Jews still justify the notion of a chosen people in a social climate in which Jewish integration and full participation with the rest of humanity had become the norm?

partial Jewish Intelectual History
Revisado: 05-24-18
Every single lecture brought new insights from new vantage points of different theologians and philosophers. The lectures were rich in the sense that new and deep ideas were brought, keeping a high academic level though simple enough for someone who hasn't learned Judaism before.
The drawback is that there is a list of some crutial figures in Jewish thought that weren't reminded or didn't receive the attention they deserve. this list includes Yosef Karo, HaAri, Baal Shem Tov, Hagaon MeVilna, Ramhal, Harav Kook, The Ravi MeLubabich and Harav Soloveichik. Furthermore, there was no mention of the intelectual history of the Jews living in the Muslim diaspora which could be sumerized by taking about Harav Ovadia Yosef.

Historia
We have all pondered seemingly unanswerably but significant questions about our existence - the biggest of all being, "Why are we here?" Philosophy has developed over millennia to help us grapple with these essential intangibles. There is no better way to study the big questions in philosophy than to compare how the world's greatest minds have analyzed these questions, defined the terms, and then reasoned out potential solutions. Once you've compared the arguments, the final step is always deciding for yourself whether you find an explanation convincing.

A must for the seeker of Truth
Revisado: 11-21-17
be ready to have at least some of your basic believes shaken. as a theist, I had some serious pills to swallow in some lectures. it really made me think of my assumptions, Prof. Johnson's assumptions, and inquire for the truth.
Prof. Johnson's lectures are comprehensive, interesting and even humorous. the only thing I should warn a listener is that you can find yourself feeling offended, either because one of your deepest believes has just been proven wrong, or because your religion is being mocked at a little or used in an unsesable way. I confess I felt offended a few times not only for my religion, but for the Jewish, Christian and Muslim religion. nonetheless, one should try to leave it aside and confront the intelectual, not personal, challenge.

Historia
Life is the most extraordinary phenomenon in the known universe; but how does it work? Even in this age of cloning and synthetic biology, the remarkable truth remains: nobody has ever made anything living entirely out of dead material. Life remains the only way to make life. Are we missing a vital ingredient in its creation? Like Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene, which provided a new perspective on how evolution works, Life on the Edge alters our understanding of life's dynamics.

Composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885, Thus Spoke Zarathustra is the most famous and influential work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. The work is a philosophical novel in which the character of Zarathustra, a religious prophet-like figure, delivers a series of lessons and sermons in a Biblical style that articulate the central ideas of Nietzsche's mature thought.
