I will be interested in seeing what happens over the next 10 years. although some of what is in this book is scary it is also reassuring. time will tell if this is the course that America takes.

Historia
The Last Viking unravels the life of the man who stands head and shoulders above all those who raced to map the last corners of the world. In 1900, the four great geographical mysteries - the Northwest Passage, the Northeast Passage, the South Pole, and the North Pole - remained blank spots on the globe. Within twenty years Roald Amundsen would claim all four prizes.

Historia
Few people are aware that John Moses Browning - a tall, humble, cerebral man born in 1855 and raised as a Mormon in the American West - was the mind behind many of the world-changing firearms that dominated more than a century of conflict. He invented the design used in virtually all modern pistols, created the most popular hunting rifles and shotguns, and conceived the machine guns that proved decisive not just in World Wars I and II but nearly every major military action since. Yet few in America knew his name until he was into his 60s.

Fascinating Story
Revisado: 07-02-21
When I decided to listen to this book I didn't have super high expectations. I've always been intrigued by Browning, but it never seen a book about his life and work. this book was very well written and historically accurate. I thought I knew a lot about John Browning and his firearms, but I learned a great deal more.

Historia
Robert B. Reich makes a powerful case for the expansion of America’s moral imagination. Rooting his argument in common sense and everyday reality, he demonstrates that a common good constitutes the very essence of any society or nation. Societies, he says, undergo virtuous cycles that reinforce the common good as well as vicious cycles that undermine it, one of which America has been experiencing for the past five decades. This process can and must be reversed.

OK, but a little out there
Revisado: 04-15-21
I love the premise of the book, but it doesn't seem based in reality. I consider myself neither conservative nor liberal. I'm in the center, which means I'm liberal on things some things and conservative on others. I do believe that the best way to get ahead in life is hard work and I don't think those that have worked hard should be punished for their success. There are certainly evils in the world and there are portion of wealthy people that have done bad things. There are also a lot of wealthy people that have achieved this through hard honest work. I'm just not a fan of redistribution of wealth for the sake of redistribution. Socialism has failed over and over again and I don't believe it's going to work "this time".

Historia
This audiobook argues for a society organized by voluntary cooperation under institutions of private property and exchange with little, ultimately no, government. It describes how the most fundamental functions of government might be replaced by private institutions, with services such as protecting individual rights and settling disputes provided by private firms in a competitive market.

Interesting, but not practical
Revisado: 09-14-20
there was a lot of very interesting content in this book. in my opinon paths to change are not laid out in a manner that would work. The recording itself is one of the worst I've ever listened to. Every chapter sounds different and you can hear everything to doors closing to car horns.

Historia
In the winter of 1918, at the height of World War I, history's most lethal influenza virus erupted in an army camp in Kansas, moved east with American troops, then exploded, killing as many as 100 million people worldwide. It killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century. But this was not the Middle Ages, and 1918 marked the first collision between modern science and epidemic disease.

Historia
April 25, 1986 in Chernobyl was a turning point in world history. The disaster not only changed the world’s perception of nuclear power and the science that spawned it, but also our understanding of the planet’s delicate ecology. With the images of the abandoned homes and playgrounds beyond the barbed wire of the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone, the rusting graveyards of contaminated trucks and helicopters, the farmland lashed with black rain, the event fixed for all time the notion of radiation as an invisible killer.

Historia
It is commonly believed that the Great Depression that began in 1929 resulted from a confluence of events beyond any one person's or government's control. In fact, as Liaquat Ahamed reveals, it was the decisions made by a small number of central bankers that were the primary cause of the economic meltdown, the effects of which set the stage for World War II and reverberated for decades.

I was surprised by how engaging this book was. The subject matter could have been dry, but the book and person reading it was very interesting. I thought I knew a lot about the causes of the great depression, but this book taught me so much more.
