Historia
Save the cure. Kill the crew. That was the dying order of the captain of the starship Elixr. The ship followed the order. Then it lost its mind. Two decades later, the last chance to save billions of souls rests with the dead starship's only occupants: a pair of boys raised by a deranged robot. When Elixr crashes on a barren world, they join forces with an impoverished girl living on the edge of society to search for answers. Who are they? Why have they survived? And what could Elixr possibly do to save a world on the precipice of collapse? The more they learn, the greater the stakes become...

Horrible Narrator
Revisado: 07-22-23
I would return this book but delayed start because of another book in progress, and I never return books, but I would this one!! The narrator pauses frequently when it is not warranted, making it extremely hard to get into this story. I had to speed up playback to try to get it to flow. That just doesn't work! Narration is so chopped up regardless of speed!
Story - ever since the Jane Hawk series, I have been extremely disappointed in all of Dean Koontz's newer books and have not been able to immerse myself in any of those stories - and I've really tried multiple times for each! Sad, because I really enjoyed his stories. I feel he has devolved to writing novels of the type he wrote when he first started out, which kept him from success for many years. Perhaps it's publishers pushing for more frequent novels, or he is just riding on his name, as another of my favorite authors seems to be doing, too. They've both forgotten the magical world of storytelling. I keep hoping but am constantly disappointed.

could have been a better storyline
Revisado: 05-11-23
The narrator was ok. The story didn't stay on track. It went onto sidelines about what they were wearing way too much and didn't really delve into what the culling was about all that much. I think it would have been just one book if all the "filler" was taken out. I prefer super long books with a good involved storyline, and this just didn't have that.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Could've left the music out.
Revisado: 12-25-20
The only thing I found that I didn't like in this audio version was the music that would play and a lot of times it would completely cover the narrator's voice. When I buy an audio book it's to listen to the story without additional sound effects. Would've gotten all 5 stars except for that.

Historia
A middle-aged, overweight, and acrophobic newspaper editor Tom Ryan and a little dog, Atticus M. Amazing Story
Revisado: 01-02-12
Would you listen to Following Atticus again? Why?
Following Atticus is a story about an extraordinary hiking partnership between a schnauzer, Atticus, and his owner, Tom Ryan -- With Atticus, Tom Ryan hikes 48 high peaks, 4000 footers in winter yet, and in doing so discovers what life should be about. This is one book that has a unique storyline! Atticus is the only miniature schnauzer to do the 48 peaks in winter and he attempted to do them twice in the winter which is amazing.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Following Atticus?
I really liked that when they both arrived at the top of a peak they would dedicate the peak to someone who had cancer, passed away from cancer or was fighting cancer. Whenever they arrived at the top of a peak, Atticus, being unique, would also sit quietly and look at the view.
What about Tom Ryan???s performance did you like?
Tom's performance was easy to listen too and I enjoyed that he, the author, was the one telling the story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Tom rescued
Any additional comments?
Even if my review is not the best since I have never really written one of these and I don't want to give too much of the story away, you should buy this book. You won't regret it if you love hiking, mountains, dogs and if you hate the rat race we all live in. Possibly it will inspire you to escape that race and take a chance to find what and who you really are.

Historia
A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

Raised my awareness
Revisado: 10-02-11
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this audiobook to everyone. Not only does it raise awareness of what our veterans are going through while in Iraq but it also raises awareness of what most of them are going through when they return to the United States, reminiscent of what Vietnam veterans went through. It also raises awareness of how important service dogs are to disabled people. After reading this book people might understand this pairing of animal and human is not just a person and their pet but a necessary pairing of the two working together to become one working entity.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Both Tuesday and Luis brought the story together. It showed how Tuesday brought Luis out of the downward spiral he was in and the strong bond they have developed since they have been together. Tuesday made it possible for Luis to tell his story which is something that needed to be told in order to help him heal.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was angered that there are so many people in the world who do not understand the need for a service dog to be with his/her partner. These dogs are highly important in helping their partner function in life and should never be excluded from any place while they are working.
