Historia
After their terrifying ordeal at the Usher manor, Alex Easton feels as if they just survived another war. All they crave is rest, routine, and sunshine, but instead, as a favor to Angus and Miss Potter, they find themself heading to their family hunting lodge, deep in the cold, damp forests of their home country, Gallacia.

Story is great, narrator is AWFUL
Revisado: 02-20-24
While this book is short, the story is amazing. Unfortunately, yet again, the narrator makes it absolutely unlistenable. Their pronunciation and over articulation is like Frances McDormand, Dora the Explorer, and Miss Rachel combined. I'm only an hour and a half in and I can't force myself to power through this one and normally I devour books like this. It's a shame about the narrator. Hopefully I'll grab a physical copy of the book and read it eventually.

Historia
Seductresses and she-monsters, nymphs and demi-goddesses, populate the famous myths of Ovid's Metamorphoses. But what happens when the story of the chase comes in the voice of the woman fleeing her rape? When the beloved coolly returns the seducer's gaze? When tales of monstrous transfiguration are sung by those transformed? In voices both mythic and modern, Wake, Siren revisits each account of love, loss, rape, revenge, and change. It lays bare the violence that undergirds and lurks in the heart of Ovid’s narratives.

It's....a hard "meh"
Revisado: 12-05-23
Updated review now that I've finished the book: It's just not good. No plot, no story other than the ones that have been regurgitated before (and better), and it's "re-done" in a way that reminds you of the people that are so full of themselves that they can't tell how much you can't stand them as they stand there talking about themselves.
Reads like themed spoken word poetry. No actual story or plot, just creative-ish interpretations of the stories you already know. A college freshman version of Natalie Haynes' retellings. Not a bad way to spend a couple hours, but I wish I hadn't spent a credit on it.

Narrator has some...unique pronunciations.
Revisado: 02-18-22
The way the narrator pronounces words like Gryffindor, belch, maude, etc. and the voices have very exaggerated pitches. Overall he's a great narrator, but the mispronunciations are very jarring and frustrating.

Historia
It’s been 30 years since the terrifying abduction of twin sisters Rebecca and Molly Underhill by a deranged man who lived in a cabin behind their house. Fearful of retribution against their family, the girls kept the incident secret. Rebecca, now a painter and art teacher, suddenly begins getting mysterious text messages. Is Molly - long lost to cancer - trying to communicate? It couldn’t be their attacker from so many years ago; he was imprisoned for a similar crime at about that same time. Surely he’d still be in jail or dead by now - wouldn’t he?

Meh... not great.
Revisado: 11-28-18
Very shallow writing and the reading performance really doesn't help. Definitely won't be recommending to anyone. Overall, wholly unimpressive.

Historia
Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Short, predictable, but not bad.
Revisado: 11-14-18
Went exactly like you thought it would, but still interesting enough to listen to. Very short though, not worth a monthly credit in my opinion.
