For Renee “Nay” Favreau, food is life. She’s the owner of a Los Angeles taco truck who dreams of becoming a respected chef and expanding her fleet, and whose greatest enemy is an unhappy food critic. Always hunting for her next great dish, the search eventually leads her to a near-fatal encounter with an interdimensional spider. Great Idea. Needed a bit of work.
Revisado: 08-22-23
The idea behind this book was awesome! I've never read about using any form of chef qualities in a fantasy book so this was unique. I do have a few negatives though:
-Way overuse of the word "said". It was constantly used even if there were only two characters in the scene. It was also used to replace the word "asked". So you would get someone asking a question but it being tied to said.
-It got so annoying with the mentions of the MC's inability to taste because of COVID. I understand saying it every once in a while, especially to brand new characters. But I counted it being mentioned once every chapter for the first 6 chapters. And it kept being shoved in our faces.
-There were some unnecessary sentences. Like the author didn't want a compound sentence to be used. It would have helped with the flow of the story.
-The ending was absolutely rushed. You have so much going on through this 18 hour book and it was all kind of wrapped up in the last hour. I felt there was too much time spent on the extras and not enough. Plus the "main conflict" didn't even feel like a conflict.
However! I did love the idea of an epicurist and how the HUD was explained. It wasn't over the top and even made some of the abilities make sense. Overall, loved the book. I really did. I just had those gripes about it. It wasn't bad enough that I had to stop listening. It kept me on edge.

THE SYNPOSIS IS A LIE!!!
Revisado: 08-22-23
I want to start this by saying THE AUTHOR OR WHOMEVER WROTE THE SYNOPSIS IS AN ABSOLUTE LIAR!!!!!!!! This book is NOT a combination of Pokemon/Monster Rancher meeting D&D. Whomever wrote it CLEARLY has no idea about these franchises.
I'm just going to list everything I found wrong off. Because I never finished the book either.
-The protag is an a-hole. He's a stuck up man who keeps saying one thing and does another. He also spends SO MUCH TIME explaining why he's doing things that it doesn't feel like we have a story. It feels like we're reading the second or third hand account of what he's doing.
-The prologue didn't even need to happen. I got about half way through and there was still nothing about it.
-Everything is so... drawn... out. I understand wanting to make sure your readers know what's going on but my god. Cut the crap and get good stuff going. I felt like I was going to fall asleep.
-There is no Monster Rancher or Pokemon aspects. *SPOILER* Plants grown fine. Its like if Stardew Valley had necromancy in the soil. THAT'S IT.
-The LitRPG aspect is forced. Instead of it being what a lot are where there is a real world (modern) aspect to it, its a magic item. Again, something that could have been taken out completely.
-The MC also keeps mentioning about "wanting to leave the past behind" and "wondering about his former party" but nothing every really felt like a threat. The biggest... "threat" we got were the attacks on the farm itself.
All in all, this book is terrible. Horribly written, the synopsis is a lie, and there is not a single character I even like. Every single person is a shady character that feels like there's no good guys. Only morally gray guys. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

Historia
Never meddle with unidentified spying objects...The year is: The Future. Mars and Earth are like that divorced couple who don’t exactly like each other but have at least stopped fighting in public. Floating somewhere in between them, amid all the garbage and Gene Roddenberry’s ashes, a transport vessel called the SS Jefferson is homeward bound. Its crew might have even made it on time for once, too...

Very Hilarous
Revisado: 08-22-23
So to start off: Yes, the main protag is very annoying. Like super positive and I can't even call him naïve. But it almost really helped as the story went along. I also didn't mind the politics at the beginning because again, PART OF THE STORY!
It was very well written, had some great jokes and references, and everything you were told was summed up by the end. Just like Witches be Crazy, I didn't want it to end. The characters were relatable. And they even grew! There was an actual growth arc! You learned so much about every character that they did feel real.
The narrator also did a fantastic job. Easy to hear and the characters were distinctive in nature so you didn't get lost.

Decent story, great narrator
Revisado: 06-17-23
The story itself isn't bad. The plot was a little odd to me(your stereotypical fix the future time travel) and the romance felt off to me. Specifically how quickly the MC took to not only the male protag but also how it all came to fruition. But for a romance novel, it was good. A good story for if you want something that isn't too heavy.
The narrator was amazing though. Made the entire book easy to listen to while performing other tasks. She was easy to understand and the character voices were great.
