Historia
Turmoil in the Mideast convinces Glen and Julie to linger in the South Pacific, visiting primitive villages on remote islands. But hang on tight, because to finish their voyage, they must leave friendly shores and navigate through trouble in the Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden, and the Red Sea before arriving in Europe. Full of dry wit and compelling descriptions, Julie takes the listener along for the ride of a lifetime in this sequel (book two of the Escape Series) to her previous best seller Escape from the Ordinary.

Easy Listening Adventure
Revisado: 01-11-21
As a fellow world traveler I enjoyed this book and as with any Audio book the narrator helped bring the story to life "she was excellent". I'm not a sailor but just like I believed that Capt Shackleton made some poor decisions that made him a hero I do feel the same applies here. This book was an excellent mental get away I just had to many WTF moments.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Historia
A Washington Post reporter's intimate account of the fallout from the closing of a General Motors assembly plant in Janesville, Wisconsin - Paul Ryan's hometown - and a larger story of the hollowing of the American middle class. This is the story of what happens to an industrial town in the American heartland when its factory stills - but it's not the familiar tale. Most observers record the immediate shock of vanished jobs, but few stay around long enough to notice what happens next, when a community with a can-do spirit tries to pick itself up.

The gravy train
Revisado: 07-31-17
As a person who served the automotive industry it was a pretty sad spectacle to watch. It was as if the entire industry was focused on their retirement and benefits. No one ever believed that the gravy train would ever run out of gravy, until it did. The author brought the story full circle answering the questions that I had. This book is an absolute winner.

Historia
In the early 1990s, Motorola, the legendary American technology company, developed a revolutionary satellite system called Iridium that promised to be its crowning achievement. Light-years ahead of anything previously put into space, and built on technology developed for Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars", Iridium's constellation of 66 satellites in polar orbit meant that no matter where you were on Earth, at least one satellite was always overhead, and you could call Tibet from Fiji without a delay and without your call ever touching a wire.

Financial roller coaster and political nightmare
Revisado: 02-08-17
Being in the trucking business I had a ringside seat to watch this fight and many others play out. I've watched the telecoms come and go. I was one of the early MCI customers, was given an Iridium demonstration and eventually ended up with a phone bill that looked like a social security number. But being a loyal Motorola customer I always wondered what happened. This book has answered all those questions and then some. Absolutely unbelievable.

Historia
An instant New York Times best seller, Dan Lyons' "hysterical" (Recode) memoir, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "the best book about Silicon Valley," takes listeners inside the maddening world of fad-chasing venture capitalists, sales bros, social climbers, and sociopaths at today's tech startups. For 25 years Dan Lyons was a magazine writer at the top of his profession - until one Friday morning when he received a phone call: Poof. His job no longer existed. "I think they just want to hire younger people," his boss at Newsweek told him.

If you enjoyed "Liars Poker" by Michael Lewis you'll like this book as well. It's not a tell all take down book, but more of a comment on the Tech industry and it's Wall Street connection. I usually enjoy books that are read by their authors and this is no exception.

Buckle your seatbelt and prepare for an eye-opening, turbulent ride into the world of aviation from the pilot's seat. Good Audio book, BUT
Revisado: 08-26-15
I completely agree with the authors suggestions that safety and professionalism should be top priorities in the airline industry. But this guy wants to ignore the laws of supply and demand. He wants to blame low pilot wages on everything from being so rich that you can afford to buy a right seat to affirmative action. The transportation industry has ALWAYS been highly competitive with thin profit margins. It's a good audio book. But the author suffers from a bad case of if you don't look like me, act like me, think like me, or talk like me, then something is wrong with you. America is a melting pot of cultures that some people embrace while others run. This guy is in a full sprint.

Historia
For centuries, mariners have spun tales of gargantuan waves, 100-feet high or taller. Until recently scientists dismissed these stories - waves that high would seem to violate the laws of physics. But in the past few decades, as a startling number of ships vanished and new evidence has emerged, oceanographers realized something scary was brewing in the planet’s waters. They found their proof in February 2000, when a British research vessel was trapped in a vortex of impossibly mammoth waves in the North Sea - including several that approached 100 feet.

I've just finished three books on the financial meltdown so this has been a welcomed diversion. It's a travel log/ tow surfing intro/ wave science intro and the subject matter is light. I find the reader excellent which is important with audiobooks.

Historia
The tenth parallel - the line of latitude seven hundred miles north of the equator - is a geographical and ideological front line where Christianity and Islam collide. More than half of the world’s 1.3 billion Muslims live along the tenth parallel; so do sixty percent of the world’s 2 billion Christians. Here, in the buzzing megacities and swarming jungles of Africa and Asia, is where the two religions meet; their encounter is shaping the future of each faith, and of whole societies as well.

Excellent Audio Book
Revisado: 09-11-10
There's LOT'S of information and facts. She quotes from both the Koran and the Holy Bible. I believe she handles both sacred texts correctly. My only dislike was her constant attempts to provide information to promote the global warming agenda. I was CONSTANTLY polled about this subject in 2007 & 2008 to the point where I became very annoyed. With all the billion dollar bailouts and trillion dollar deficits it isn't one of my major concerns. She should leave global warming to experts, like Al Gore.

A largely untold facet of the war on terror is the widespread outsourcing of military tasks to private mercenary companies.
