Historia
One event, big enough to wreak havoc on America. Three men. Seventeen days. One goal: Survive long enough to reach their safe haven. During the first 17 days of the collapse of America, three men travel through the mounting destruction, seeking asylum in the Rocky Mountains, but finding, instead, the nucleus of who they are as men. A jaded special operations soldier, a self-doubting family man, and a once-pampered teenager make their way from three corners of the country toward a survival compound in the state of Utah.

Historia
Gail Muller was told she’d be in a wheelchair by the age of 40. At 41, she set out to hike one of the world’s toughest treks: the Appalachian Trail - a 2,200-mile journey that would help her reclaim her life and heal her mind and body. An inspiring, moving, and uplifting memoir for fans of Cheryl Strayed’s Wild and Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love.

Very well written, wonderfully recorded. And the tale itself is woven and told splendidly. I hope Ms. Mueller writes about her next trails!

Historia
We spend an average of just 47 seconds on any screen before shifting our attention. It takes 25 minutes to bring our attention back to a task after an interruption. And we interrupt ourselves more than we're interrupted by others. In Attention Span, psychologist Gloria Mark reveals these and more surprising results from her decades of research into how technology affects our attention

Historia
Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why the parade of public figures unable to own up when they screw up? Why the endless marital quarrels over who is right? Why can we see hypocrisy in others but not in ourselves? Are we all liars? Or do we really believe the stories we tell? Renowned social psychologists Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson take a compelling look into how the brain is wired for self-justification.

Excellent book if you have an unhealthy obsession with hating President Trump. .
Revisado: 01-16-23
What would have been an excellent exploration of the human tendency to self-justify is nearly completely ruined by an almost insane focus on President Trump’s failures and character flaws. The author provides some excellent relationship and leadership information, but then continually circles back to a deranged jeremiad against Trump. It comes off as quite odd and not quite…. Sane.

Historia
You might think you know what happened in the tragic shooting of Breonna Taylor, but no one knows that better than the lead officer on the scene, Sergeant John Mattingly. However, with the full support of the mainstream media, "Black Lives Matter" activists and other leftist groups immediately pounced on the tragedy, exploiting Breonna's death and twisting the story—in some cases, telling outright lies—to bolster a shameful “All Cops Are Bastards" narrative and radical “Defund the Police" agenda.

The TRUTH!
Revisado: 04-14-22
A well-written, honest, and heart-wrenching recounting of the tragic Bryona Taylor event by one of the only people who can know all the facts.
Lies, deceit, and manipulation by men and women (some evil, some weak, and a few well-intentioned fools) with agendas were allowed to run the public narrative of this event. It’s refreshing to hear the TRUTH told by one of the officers victimized by the process.

Historia
What is the best way for the average person to authentically experience the world's greatest mountain range - the Himalayas? Fortunately, there is now a good answer. The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is the most popular footpath in Asia. Its genius lies in its design. Trekkers wind their way around and along some of the world's greatest peaks, ultimately getting near 18,000 feet, without ever having to do any 'technical climbing'.

I always love Walker’s books
Revisado: 03-05-21
As a lifelong backpacker, climber, and adventurer, I always thoroughly enjoy Walker’s books. Thus far in life I haven’t been able to devote the amount of time necessary for long treks or trips, but that time for me is drawing near, and Bill’s books are helping me decide which future adventures to prioritize. Thank you, Mr. Walker.

But, I do contribute to humanity in one very important way: I share my adventures with the world."

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

This is one of those amazing stories that you want to go on forever. As I watched the "time left" diminishing near the end of the book, I became sad it was almost over. I think I need to go on a hike.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....
