short stories and poetry are a win

I actually rarely write a full review. It always feels like, "if I do it for one I should do it for all" and with over 2000 books in my library, that's just a lot.

However, I HAD to write a review for this one.

Whether it's a perm, or a short story, or a mini-novela that introduces you to me characters, there's not a bad moment in this book.

I'm sorry but after all the hype I'd seen on this book, I was genuinely hoping for something new. instead you "learn" that Lindsey is a toady and Kevin isn't a leader but a lapdog.. save your credits

the last book in this series was a bit rough to make it through.

I'm glad that the author has returned to this style of storytelling. I don't want to say the last book was bad, it just required more thought than my brain candy consumption of this series is for me

some of the most flat narration ever...

these stories could be excellent but the narrator's are some of the consistently bad I've ever gotten from audible.

thankfully I'm used to listening to readers that volunteer with Library of Congress who read on tape in the 90s... but if you're used to good characterization and the flow of modern audiobooks, this will be painful

A truly enjoyable adventure...

with bits of humor (though fewer than the Audible Description made it seem) and a run through multiple worlds with variant times, this was a very enjoyable adventure.

it's a long book, but much like in Drew Hayes SuperPowereds fashion, it's an easy distance to travel. The narration is excellent and Sean Runnette should be proud.

Good, but so hard to imagine

Masaji Ishikawa does not present a good portrait of himself. But then, given the life he's had, how can he.

I'm intrigued to see if anything has changed for him since the publishing of this book.

the fact that a place like North Korea can exist while it's people exist as Ishikawa does, reminds us in the first world just how truly lucky we are.

much like with Hayes' 'Fred, the Vampire Accountant' series, I'm sorry to see this one end. But it ends well and for a long, long book, I enjoyed the entire time I spent with it. As well as the entire time I spent with the students of Lander.

Isaacson really is an excellent biographer and this book is half art history lesson and half biography but wholly worth a listen.
