This is possibly the strangest book I have consumed on Audible. The narrative involves a smash-up of myriad genre tropes--space aliens, ghosts, possession--and somehow forges them into a coherent and entertaining whole. It's very much a product of its time--some of the 1970s-era erotica might come across as a bit dated--but this works in its favor.

Charming 1970s-Esque Horror

"Sallow Bend" was an engaging experience; the performance was captivating and the narrative (with twists and turns) was enough to quickly hook me. The tone, writing and characters were similar to horror paperbacks from the 1970s... I was surprised to learn that the writing is far more contemporary. If that kind of Bradbury-small-town-mystery vibe is your speed, "Sallow" is likely to fill that need.

Campy Bit of Charles Grant Fun

While "Soft Whisper" lacks some of the complexity of other Oxrun Station books, it retains the schlocky fun of Charles Grant. Performance is solid and the story is continually entertaining and punchy. If it veers into camp frequently, it was entertaining enough to motivate me to read the next book in the trilogy.
