Historia
Ruby Young's new Boston apartment comes with all the usual perks. Windows facing the brick wall of the next-door building. Heat that barely works. A malfunctioning buzzer. Noisy neighbors. A dead body on the sidewalk outside. And of course, a ghost. Since Cordelia Graves died in her apartment a few months ago, she's kept up her residency, despite being bored out of her (non-tangible) skull and frustrated by her new roommate. When her across-the-hall neighbor, Jake Macintyre, is shot and killed in an apparent mugging gone wrong outside their building, Cordelia is convinced there’s more to it.

Nice mystery

I liked the Ruby-Cordelia friendship. Not a challenging listen, but nice and easy sort of like a Miss Marple story.

Historia
When Anna Hartley’s husband, Henry, calls her with a terrible, guilty confession, she can’t believe what she hears. It has to be a bad joke—the mild, predictable artist she married would never hurt a fly, let alone commit murder. But her confusion turns to horror when police find his body washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande.

Really nice writing. When the main character pulls into her new life, the gas station she sees is missing the “s” so the sign reads “hell.” So entertaining.

Who hasn’t wished to go back and make a different decision? What mother would believe that if you can go back, it would be because of the love for her child? This book considers these issues. Very good listen.

Over a century ago, and just a few miles further into the bleak landscape, a desperate stranger ended up in Calico, a struggling mining town, also hoping for a second chance.

I thought the story was very good and pretty funny in parts. Even though the ending didn’t live up to the rest of the book, it was well worth giving it a listening.

Historia
Lucas Forester didn’t hate his wife. Michelle was brilliant, sophisticated and beautiful. Sure, she had extravagant spending habits, that petty attitude, a total disregard for anyone below her status. But she also had a lot to offer. Most notably: wealth that only the one percent could comprehend. For years, Lucas has been honing a flawless plan to inherit Michelle’s fortune. Unfortunately, it involves taking a hit out on her. Every track is covered, no trace left behind, and now Lucas plays the grieving husband so well he deserves an award.

Good story, with some flaws
Revisado: 06-28-23
I figured it out from the beginning, and it was annoying that despite how smart the main character was, that he didn’t. Also, the pat way it was resolved felt like the author had come up against a page limitation. Also, the main character, though horrible, was more like able than the wife-victim and certainly more like able than thug, Bobby Boyle.
In this way, the ending was a dissatisfying because those who also deserved justice didn’t get it.

Revisado: 11-23-22
The narrator is so great. I liked the book, but I kept waiting for the twist that didn’t come. Also, it spent a lot of time wrapping up the book, which left nothing for the reader to figure out on their own.
