Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Heartbreaking mystery
Revisado: 12-17-24
Really good narration.
The story leaves you feeling both heartbroken and comforted in the end, and gives much cause to wonder about a topic of human behaviour (institutional)-

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful. So successful that Susan must continue to put up with his troubling behavior if she wants to keep her job.

Fabulous who dunnit!
Revisado: 08-10-24
Great narration, and intriguing story intertwining between “reality” and fiction. I had watched magpie murders on the bbc initially, which was very good, but the book is even better! Highly recommend for those who love a who dunnit !

Weak storyline and weak narration
Revisado: 02-21-24
A very difficult listen as the narrator was breathy and constant without pauses or inflection.
The storyline also was quite weak- full of woke tropes and could have approached the ideas with more thought.
If I could have returned it I would have.

Excellent
Revisado: 08-03-23
An excellent thoughtful novel that leaves you pondering. Unfortunately I found the quality of the recording to be problematic, missing often the first syllable of most sentences, and awkward pauses that were less about narration but more about the recording of it. Also, it was not loud enough, on full volume- it was still very low.

Historia
The Etymologicon is a completely unauthorized guide to the strange underpinnings of the English language. It explains: How you get from “gruntled” to “disgruntled”; why you are absolutely right to believe that your meager salary barely covers “money for salt”; how the biggest chain of coffee shops in the world (hint: Seattle) connects to whaling in Nantucket; and what precisely the Rolling Stones have to do with gardening.

Simply delightful
Revisado: 09-01-16
This is a delightful book. It is well written, with obviously excellent grammar and punctuation...! And flowed from one term to another with ease. The narrator was easy to listen to, and I enjoyed his humorous tone. I will listen to it in the future many times I think.
