It was ok

I liked the characters and the overall storyline. But it never really gripped me. The chase scenes were good. Overall I never really felt connected to it and when I set it down it didn’t draw me back. I’d forget I was reading it. But I’m glad I finished it.

Good but WARNING - skip Chapter 1 - Being Bachman
Revisado: 06-19-22
Right off the bat you MUST NOT LISTEN TO CHAPTER 1 until after listening to the entire book. It contains an unforgivable spoiler for this book. This should have been edited. No excuse for this being in there.
After that though the book is pretty good. Almost science fiction. Definitely along the lines of Hunger Games. I liked it and thought the reader was good.
I’m currently trying to read / listen to the entire Stephen King library in published order. This is not my favorite Bachman book. That goes to Blaze but this is definitely with listening to if you’re trying to cover all Stephen King books. Otherwise there’s not much new here. Another Interesting take on the future of the world.

I really wanted to like this book. And in fact will likely purchase the Kindle version and read it. The narration was intolerable. Both the narrator and the quality of the recording. I am returning this for credit. Maybe it's just me.

Historia
The death of Steve Jobs left a gaping void at one of the most innovative companies of all time. Jobs wasn't merely Apple's iconic founder and CEO; he was the living embodiment of a global megabrand. It was hard to imagine that anyone could fill his shoes - especially not Tim Cook, the intensely private executive who many thought of as Apple's "operations drone". But seven years later, as journalist Leander Kahney reveals in this definitive audiobook, things at Apple couldn't be better.

Could not get past the narration
Revisado: 04-20-19
I eagerly anticipated the 16th to arrive. I was very excited to listen to this book. But I could not get past the narration. I didn't feel the author's accent was aligned with the story at all and always kept me "out of the book". I tried going back to this book a number of times before ultimately asking for a refund. Might be a book I have to read.

Continues to stay interesting
Revisado: 05-10-17
I wasn't sure if this was going to be my cup of tea when I started the first volume but is after 2 full novels that I'm still very interested and waiting for the 3rd volume. The story line moves along at a good pace and fortunately aren't too many characters to keep track of since there is a lot of other stuff happening. If you like books about playing games this one is pretty good. I wish real VR was this evolved.

To everyone else it's Dragonscale, a highly contagious, deadly spore that marks its hosts with beautiful black and gold marks across their bodies - before causing them to burst into flames. Good premise - 10 hours too long
Revisado: 09-17-16
Would you try another book from Joe Hill and/or Kate Mulgrew?
Yes. I like Joe HIll overall, and the narrator was good. But I will not try another book from Joe Hill that is this long.
Has The Fireman turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. I like the genre.
What does Kate Mulgrew bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator did a good job of bringing the main character to life. Her performance of the other characters was good also, but almost all of the other characters were male. But still a good job overall
Any additional comments?
This was a good premise and at first well executed. But this book is at least 10 hours too long. The character development was great. And the development of the world they lived in was great. But then the pace completely fell off. I couldn't wait for this book to be over. With 3 hours left, I started jumping ahead and listening to the first 5 seconds of each audible chapter and found no progress being made. I found the conclusion very soft after 22 hours. And folks, be aware the actual end of the book is after you listen to the author give credit to a bunch of people for 5 minutes. There is an additional 4 minutes after the credits that the author says is a thank you for listening to the credits. What is with that?

The sequel you’ve been waiting for: the follow-up to the sensational number-one best seller The Devil Wears Prada. Andrea "Andy" Sachs is on top of the world, running her own very successful high-fashion bridal magazine. But she got there with the help of her rolodex - actually, the rolodex of Miranda Priestly, her former nightmare of a boss. As Andy's success grows, she realizes she'll soon have to face Miranda. Still, Andy can hardly anticipate the horrifying reality that’s approaching - a reversal so profound that she will be squarely in Miranda’s crosshairs once more.

Not at all what I wanted or hoped for!
Revisado: 09-03-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I am probably one of the few male listeners of this book and it's predecessor, but I loved Devil Wears Prada. I related to Andy in the first book and can appreciate coming in to a very difficult job with an overbearing, under appreciative boss that has no regards to you as a person. She also was considered an outsider that didn't deserve or appreciate the job she had. And while almost losing her soul, found a way to work through it and find herself. Great stuff! So, I was excited when I saw Revenge Wears Prada pop up.
This book was a huge disappointment. The story line was 95% a romance story (kind of, since she couldn't make up her mind about anything) and a tale of pregnancy. I'm guessing that Miranda was on a total of 3 pages in this book. I couldn't believe it took so many hours to tell so little about Miranda, the Plunge, and Runway magazine. And there was virtually no interaction between Miranda and Andy.
This could have been such a better book if Lauren would have stuck to what made the first book so popular.
I understand if you just HAVE to download this to see for yourself, I did. But make sure you have extra credits that you don't know what to do with first.
Would you ever listen to anything by Lauren Weisberger again?
Yes. Because Devil Wears Prada was so well done.
Did Megan Hilty do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Her performance was good. I thought she did Andy, Emily, and all of the male characters just fine. The problem with the book wasn't in her performance.

Great book. Possibly the best reader ever.
Revisado: 08-25-11
There are 2 books that are on my standing wish list for audible.com. IT and The Stand. I commute for over 2 hours each day and like a substantial book. I somehow missed when IT was released on Audible, but downloaded it this month and it is amazing. Over 40 hours of material, (a little too much background in some cases), but it has been so long since I read this book that it was brand new to me and absolutely riveting the way it unfolds between what happened in the past and the present (1985). But the most amazing part is Steven Weber as the reader. I didn't know what to think going in knowing him from Wings and The Shining remake. But, I must say that he is possibly the best reader I have experience in the 250 books I have listened to. I put him even ahead of the standards - Scott Brick and Frank Muller. I would love to see the Stand come to life with him as the narrator. If you like classic Stephen King and you have the time to commit to an epic novel of this size, you will not be disappointed.

Best-selling novelist Cullen "Cubby" Greenwich is a lucky man and he knows it. He makes a handsome living doing what he enjoys. His wife, Penny, a children's book author and illustrator, is the love of his life. Together they have a brilliant six-year-old, Milo, affectionately dubbed "Spooky," and a non-collie named Lassie, who's all but part of the family. So Cubby knows he shouldn't let one bad review of his otherwise triumphant new book get to him.

This book is just stupid
Revisado: 06-21-09
I hate to be that direct, but the entire premise, characters, plot, ending are all stupid. The only reason I gave it 1 star is that it was short, the narrator did a good job, and really the dialog between husband, wife, and son was good. This book never did catch fire though. I never felt any urgency or sense of pending doom. In my opinion anyway, do not waste a credit on this book.

Revisado: 06-21-09
Thank you, Lee Child. This is the Jack Reacher book I've been waiting for. I was very disappointed in the last 2 books. I didn't even finish the last one. I thought the days of my favorite character were over. But Mr. Child delivers in this book. Great Jack Reacher book. Full of logic and thinking and intuition and oh, yeah... Reacher! So, if you're a Jack Reacher fan, download it today.
