Only Dolly Could Have a Book About Clothes
Revisado: 12-21-24
Believe it or not, this is a fairly interesting book. I have read most everything about Dolly and I wanted to read this only because of that. I did not expect it to be as entertaining as it is. It's not GREAT, but it's good.

Barbra Streisand is by any account a living legend, a woman who in a career spanning six decades has excelled in every area of entertainment. She is among the handful of EGOT winners (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) and has one of the greatest and most recognizable voices in the history of popular music. She has been nominated for a Grammy 46 times, and with Yentl she became the first woman to write, produce, direct, and star in a major motion picture. In My Name Is Barbra, she tells her own story about her life and extraordinary career.

My Name is Barbra is Meh.
Revisado: 12-21-24
Way too much detail. Way way too much. Streisand has had an interesting life, but not so interesting that we must hear every detail. The story is bogged down in all the narrative. It needed to be culled a bit. A big no from me if I'm asked to recommend this book.

Historia
Early in the Great War, men left Britain’s factories in droves to enlist. Struggling to keep up production, arsenals hired women to build the weapons the military urgently needed. “Be the Girl Behind the Man Behind the Gun,” the recruitment posters beckoned. Thousands of women—cooks, maids, shopgirls, and housewives—answered their nation’s call. These “munitionettes” worked grueling shifts often seven days a week, handling TNT and other explosives with little protective gear.

Canary Girls -- A Great Read
Revisado: 12-21-24
The trouble with Jennifer Chiaverini is that she sets the bar high for other authors who have primarily a female audience. Each time a new Chiaverini books comes out, I hope it's an Elm Creek book, and I'm always disappointed when its not. However, this book can hold its own with any of them. Very well done. I learned a lot. Her fiction inspires me to reach out and do a bit of research on the subjects she writes about. I highly recommend.

Stymied by writer’s block, Summer hasn’t finished her thesis, and she can’t graduate until she does. vElm Creek Manor offers respite while Summer struggles to meet her extended deadline.

I Loved This Book
Revisado: 12-21-24
I love everything about Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek quilt series, and this book was not different. These are "clean" reads but with a well-developed plot and the main characters have admirable values and integrity. This book was as good as all of the Elm Creek quilt books. I highly recommend.

Historia
Most people know Andrew McCarthy from his movie roles in Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, Weekend at Bernie's, and Less Than Zero, and as a charter member of Hollywood's Brat Pack. That iconic group of ingenues and heartthrobs has come to represent both a genre of film and an era of pop culture. In his memoir, McCarthy focuses his gaze on that singular moment in time. The result is a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction, and masculinity.

This was not a very interesting read. I like this actor and I'm so glad he turned his wild life around, but the book is not that interesting. I would pass on this one if I could rewind and spend my time on something else.

Rob Lowe Is Now My Friend
Revisado: 12-21-24
While I thought this was a more recent book (my mistake), it still was very interesting. So many "stars" lead a train wreck of a life and Rob Lowe's life has had its minutes, but he pulls out of that. He left me admiring him as an individual -- not just a celebrity. I was very pleasantly surprised. I wish he'd write a second book on her current life.

I thought this would be far better than it was. I don't live that far from the Greenbrier so perhaps my interest was overly invested. I gave this one a "meh."

The London Girls - A Pretty Good Read
Revisado: 12-21-24
I love WWI and WWII fiction. While this was not the very best, it was still good; and I'd recommend it. I gave it four stars vs. five stars as, at times, it didn't hold my attention in the manner a good book should.

Historia
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

From Here to Nowhere
Revisado: 12-21-24
It just wasn't that good. Obviously, we are curious about celebrities else we would not buy their books. Lots of time spent on her childhood -- enough to know that she came from a train wreck of a family and had no discipline. That lack of discipline plagued her the remainder of her life. The time she was married to Michael Jackson was interesting, but still, this would be a pass from if I had to do it over again.

For a long time, no one pulling the strings in the comedy world thought that a woman over fifty from rural Tennessee could make it in the industry. But Leanne Morgan has defied the odds, reaching millions with her musings on hormones, low-rise britches, Weight Watchers, and her opposites-attract relationship with her husband, Chuck. In her charming southern accent, Morgan brings listeners inside her quest to find her voice after spending many years trying to figure out what that meant.

Almost Really Good...But Not Quite
Revisado: 12-21-24
I have enjoyed Leanne Morgan so much and in buying this book, I wondered if it would be repetitive of her performance on Netflix, etc. It was not. The only reason I did not provide five stars is that sometimes in her humor regarding her husband, she's almost caustic. Some of that is funny, but after a bit, her humor sounds a little too true and she appears to be bitter.
