Historia
When private detective Cooper "Coop" Harrington meets record label mogul Grayson Taylor at a swank gathering of country music artists and politicians he never imagines he'll be investigating his brutal murder less than twenty-four hours later. The suspects are plentiful. More than a handful of people could have wanted him dead. Retained by Taylor's widow, Coop works alongside his best friend and Chief of Detectives, Ben Mason. The investigation leads Coop and Ben to scandalous indiscretions, secrets, and hints of corruption that swirl in the midst of their pursuit of the killer.

Not being a fan of country music and cliche southern customs, I didn’t expect much. Good mystery. Good values.

Historia
Geoffrey Lushington, Mayor of Marlow, dies suddenly during a Town Council meeting. When traces of aconite—also known as the queen of poisons—are found in his coffee cup, the police realize he was murdered. But who did it? And why? The police bring Judith, Suzie and Becks in to investigate as Civilian Advisors right from the start, so they have free rein to interview suspects and follow the evidence to their heart’s content, which is perfect because Judith has no time for rules and standard procedure.

Not for lovers of justice
Revisado: 02-09-25
The good guy wins a battle only to be slammed by one even more unfathomble. The nastiness of small town government is unrealistic and insulting. There are no more than a few moments of satisfaction for the good guys winning. The friends and views and recipes don’t hold up against the evil.
Not fun. Not fulfilling . Not going to be repeated.

Perceptive, provocative. The book is not written from the genius of the author. A number of themes caused deep reflection and change of thought.

Unless you are a masochist, give this series a skip. Two minutes of justice at the end doesn’t balance two hours of misery.

Interesting setting and relationships
Revisado: 12-10-24
I enjoyed this and will listen to others in the series. It is tiring to see women portrayed as incapable of charging phones, keeping up with keys, etc. In this book the fact that the protagonist withheld information from the police was troubling. Otherwise it was quite nice.

The monotone of the narrator may have made the story seem more dismal than it actually was. I confess to skipping some chapters.
