Most unpredictable text I’ve read in a long time. Great story about historical tragedy, the power of ancestors and NC folklore. Who knew UNC held so many secrets.

Story and performance was so good. I would recommend for a family with teens. So much to unpack and discuss. Relevant and powerful.

Wonderful characters
Revisado: 05-11-22
I really enjoy Beverly Jenkins style of writing. The characters in these stories capture me. I struggled with the. Hangs in narration from the first story to this one. The style was so different it felt like listening to two different sets of characters. This is the reason for my 2 star performance. It was fine just not consistent with the previous book.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

What a great narrative!
Revisado: 05-13-18
I love Trevor Noah. I fully expected to love this book and it did not disappoint. I love that Trevor narrates the peace and how much it is like having a conversation with him about his life and how he came to be. His mother is a woman worth admiring. I feel like I learned so much about the realities of apartheid in South Africa and what it meant to be a child being raised during that time. I highly recommend and promise it will not disappoint.
