Historia
This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, a librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36, and were married when Clare was 22 and Henry 30. Impossible but true, because Henry has Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his past, present, and future.

Loved It
Revisado: 06-28-07
I really thought the ending was going to be a tear jerker, but WOW! I don't want to spoil it for you, so just read (listen) to this one. If you enjoy fantasy set on earth in the present, this one is probably one of the absolutely best titles.

They are stronger, heal better, and think faster than any humans ever created, and they must be destroyed. But not even Victor Helios, once Frankenstein, can stop the engineered killers he's set loose on a reign of terror through modern-day New Orleans. Now the only hope rests in a one-time "monster" and his all-too-human partners, Detectives Carson O'Connor and Michael Maddison.

Historia
English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

Endearing Fantasy
Revisado: 06-28-07
The Historians of English Magic just can't believe that there is a practitioner out there. This is a comical and very entertaining novel. I recommend it for those who enjoy titles with "twists of history." Difficult to put down.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Excellent for Young Adults and Adults
Revisado: 06-28-07
I enjoyed the story the author created to explain the origin of the "Wicked Witch of the West." It was entertaining, but not entertaining enough for me to want to read or hear "Son of a Witch."

A new genre for Anne Rice?
Revisado: 06-28-07
I thoroughly enjoyed this title. It does follow Catholic tradition, though I doubt Protestants would be offended. This Methodist wasn't offended. I was hoping the author might consider a second title, picking up where the first ended.

The first in a mesmerizing four-book original series, Prodigal Son is a brilliant re-imagining and updating of the classic Frankenstein story that only Dean Koontz could conceive. Two hundred years old, the "monster", Deucalion, is a monster no more. Literate and intelligent, he arrives in modern-day New Orleans, where he will join forces with a street-smart police detective and her partner on the trail of a macabre serial killer.

Best of the Best
Revisado: 06-28-07
This title supplements Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath." Being a work of non-fiction, it explains what happened to those who did not flee from the dust. I enjoyed it so much, I bought the hard copy and gave it as a gift.

In Fallen, David Maine has drawn a convincing, enthralling portrait of a family driven (and riven) by familiar passions and jealousies. The result is a staggering achievement and intimate, hilarious, and utterly original telling of temptation and murder, and of exile and loss.

A good listening experience
Revisado: 06-28-07
If you enjoy the author, you won't be disappointed. The book gets a little slow in the middle, the author repeated things that seemed unnecessary. The ending was a surprise.
