Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Good book, bad sound
Revisado: 12-04-20
Excellent content but the poor sound quality was distracting. There's a lot of sound information in this book but if cursing offends you, this book is not for you.

Have you ever gone through an entire series just to see if a protagonist will either grow as a person or die from their own stupidity? I just did. Well written, good book, stupid protagonist.

It's a cute story, if you can get past the fact that she's 17 and he's 30. I don't care what the time period is, that's still creepy.

Austen wrote, 'I am going to take a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like' and thus introduces the handsome, clever, rich - and flawed, Emma Woodhouse. Emma is perfectly content with her life and sees no need for either love or marriage; nothing however delights her more than matchmaking her fellow residents of Highbury. But when she ignores the warnings of her good friend Mr. Knightley and attempts to arrange a suitable match for her protegee Harriet Smith, her carefully laid plans soon unravel and have consequences that she never expected.

Revisado: 10-07-18
Seriously Emma, mind your business. I hadn't read this in over ten years and my reaction to it has definitely changed. no longer do I find Emma to be a romantic heroin but instead an irritating meddlesome mess. I still think the Eltons are terrible though.

The story was...ok. my issue was with the performer. He made the lead character sound indecisive and weak by giving him an upward lilt at the end of most statements as though he was questioning everything. The accents were off too.

blech
Revisado: 09-21-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This needed a better narrator
What was most disappointing about Dawn Metcalf’s story?
There was so little research into folklore done for this, they fey in this story were just a vehicle for a sad plot.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Seriously woman, stop trying to make up voices, you just made the characters sound like little girls trying to make up voices. All of the characters wound up sounding effete and ridiculous.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Indelible?
All of them?

Shakespeare goes Steampunk
Revisado: 09-23-12
If you could sum up All Men of Genius in three words, what would they be?
pretty good listen
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the familiarity of the plot and the added feminist leanings.
Have you listened to any of Emily Gray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I'm not sure if I have.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
nope.
Any additional comments?
Nope.

interesting take on the Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life
Revisado: 09-23-12
What did you love best about Unwind?
The fact that it didn't get preachy about the topic and didn't get heavy handed about the specifics behind the premise.
What other book might you compare Unwind to and why?
not so much a book as the story Patchwork Girl by Larry Niven, which deals with the idea of criminals as parts/organ donors and the ethical dilemmas that might cause.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Luke Daniels?
maybe
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
This is a lame question.

There's a good story under all the profanity
Revisado: 08-11-12
What disappointed you about Blackbirds?
The shear amount of profanity, and coming from someone from the Bronx, that's saying something. Sometimes the gore was a little excessive too.
What could Chuck Wendig have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Cut out some of the cursing. The sexual content was ok because it had a point, it showed the fulcrum in a relationship. If it hadn't been included, the dynamic of the relationships would have had less impact. As for the excessive gore, why use 20 words when 2 would be sufficient.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Not much, she did a pretty good job.
What character would you cut from Blackbirds?
none, they were all necessary to the plot.
Any additional comments?
maybe I'm just not cut out for the horror genre, the only author I've been able to really tolerate is Stephen King. If you're a fan of gore and horror, this is a really good book.
