Science Fiction With The Authority Of Shakespeare.
Revisado: 01-09-17
I bought the first book in a whim and instantly fell in love. the characters are relatable and the story while not unique is well constructed.
John Lee delivers the story with the gravitas you would expect from Richard III and it is enhanced by his performance.
the next book in the series can't come soon enough.

An Author I love a narrator I don't.
Revisado: 12-16-16
I don't write a ton of reviews but I felt the need for this one. I discovered Edward Robertson from his other series The Cycle of Awran. I love his prose and world building. sadly this series falters not through his fault but the choice of narrator. the reading relies heavily on what I call " the angry whisper" for nearly every character regardless of person or apropriateness.
I'll be finishing this one as an ebook.

Historia
"The Golden Brat", Reinhard von Lohengramm, a military prodigy and admiral of the Galactic Empire, has ambitions beyond protecting the borders or even defeating the empire's enemies. He seeks to overthrow the old order and become a truly absolute - yet benevolent - dictator. His rival, the humble Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance, wishes to preserve democracy even if he must sacrifice his political ideals to defeat the empire.

Interesting New Universe
Revisado: 09-22-16
I picked this up on a whim because I enjoy the narrator and thoroughly enjoyed it. the dialogue can be a bit awkward at times because of the translation but it is more than made up for by the chracters and story.
also refreshing to see a sci-fi novel that doesn't get bogged down in the minutia of space battles and instead chooses to focus on its characters.

First prize in the Skyway Soap slogan contest was an all-expenses-paid trip to the moon. The consolation prize was an authenticspace suit, and when scientifically minded high school senior Kip Russell wonit, he knew for certain he would use it one day to make a sojourn of his own tothe stars. But "one day" comes sooner than he thinks when he tries the suit on in his backyard - and finds himself worlds away, a prisoner aboard a space pirate's ship.

Great Classic Sci Fi
Revisado: 10-05-15
I have been drawn to the classic Sci Fi Writers a lot lately. While, as of 2015, the most popular new writers insist on writing about bleak dystopias there is some real value in going back and reading something with some optimism for a change.
The Narrator takes a little getting used to since he overplays the 1950s era wholesomeness of Heinlein. Overall though once you settle into his style of reading it is enjoyable overall.

But now a Storm approaches, one that could sweep away everything humans have built. Interesting if somewhat stereotypical
Revisado: 12-13-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
While overall I enjoyed this book I couldn't help but shake the "future young adult film franchise" feeling that runs throughout. Many of the tropes associated with that type of novel are present and permeate the book. From the late teenage protagonists who know better than their elders and fight against the status-quo, to the fatefilled meeting of star crossed lovers, it's all there and what you would expect from a story written to appeal to the audience that has made series like The Hunger Games so popular. While it does hurt the story for me overall the world is interesting and I plan to stick with it in the future to see where it goes.
If you’ve listened to books by Jack Campbell before, how does this one compare?
Jack Campbell is probably one of my 5 favorite Science Fiction authors writing today and I absolutely adore his Lost Fleet universe. For his fans I will warn you that this is very little like his previous works. If you like Stark's War and Lost Fleet but hate D&D and similar Jack Campbell may not be enough to keep you with this book or series.
Was The Dragons of Dorcastle worth the listening time?
For anyone looking to fill the void left by Hunger Games, Harry Potter, or similar in their life than this might be the one you are looking for. The steampunk world is interesting and the larger conflict has some real potential to make for a great book series
