Historia
Before he was nicknamed “Sting” by the leader of a local show band in northeast England, Gordon Sumner knew he was meant for more than his working-class background promised. He just didn’t know how to get there. In Upon Reflection, hear the singular talent trace his unlikely rise from his days as a young husband and father working as a local schoolteacher, to risking everything on a fateful move to London, and joining an aspiring punk band called The Police.

I liked him better before I listened to this
Revisado: 02-26-24
I was hoping for something deeper than “I don’t have a big ego”. The vanilla remixes made it seem like he didn’t value the collaboration of a drummer. I know this was during lockdown, but he’s Sting. He can hire a drummer anywhere on the planet.

Historia
Thirty years ago, award-winning journalist Jon Ronson stumbled on the mystery of Carol Howe—a charismatic, wealthy former debutante turned white supremacist spokeswoman turned undercover informant. In 1995, Carol was spying on Oklahoma’s neo-Nazis for the government just when Timothy McVeigh blew up a federal building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people.

We’ll researched
Revisado: 09-09-23
It’s refreshing to hear a journalist ask the deep questions over and over again. The story is presented in a matter that preserves intrigue, while still giving you information. The shocking take away for me was that no matter how you look at it the Oklahoma City bombing had an instruction manual that the authorities ignored.

Historia
Thirty five concerts. Seventeen thousand motorcycle miles. Three months. One lifetime. In May 2015 the veteran Canadian rock trio Rush embarked on their 40th anniversary tour, R40. For the band and their fans, R40 was a celebration and, perhaps, a farewell. But for Neil Peart, each tour is more than just a string of concerts; it's an opportunity to explore backroads near and far on his BMW motorcycle. So if this was to be the last tour and the last great adventure, he decided it would have to be the best one, onstage and off.

A travelogue written to uppease fans
Revisado: 09-09-23
There were two themes in this book. 1. I’m going to retire and here’s why. And 2. I’m old and my daughter is young so here are some moments dear daughter for you to look back on because I’m going to die earlier than most dads.
Other than that it could have been a magazine article about motorcycle travel. He holds his cards so close to the chest that any artistic or creative process is missing or perhaps in his earlier book which I have not read.

Finally a biography with some lessons.
Revisado: 08-31-23
I don't mean boring lessons. Many biographies only tell the story of what happened and maybe how the person felt. It's nice when the person experiencing all that is introspective enough to derive lessons and a through line of meaning. Best biography I've read so far.

Pleasant, but not a deep dive

I was surprised to hear that as a child, he had to journal every day, and that his father would read it every day. It must’ve been hard to find his voice after trying for so long to meet a parent’s approval through his expression of internal thoughts. This gave me compassion for Mr. Ma.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

At age 34 Jo Piazza got her romantic-comedy ending when she met the man of her dreams on a boat in the Galápagos Islands and was engaged three months later. But before long Jo found herself riddled with questions. How do you make a marriage work in a world where you no longer need to be married? How does an independent, strong-willed feminist become someone's partner - all the time?

Ignore the audio sample
Revisado: 08-11-23
I purchased this because the audio sample made is sound like it would be a book about a woman coming to terms with her illness and discovering how to feel worthy in a relationship when she is slowly losing bits of health. The title is a much better indicator of the books contents. For better or worse this is a book written by a young person about being married. More accurately it it's a book by a young person about being married ONE year. I wasn't in love with the voice of the book but I was expecting a different book when I purchased this. It's a bit more of an ironic magazine article voice than a deep confession. The most interesting thing from the book was when she explored a matriarchal community in India which had less to do with marriage and more to do with just how to make decisions.

In the end he doesn’t care about joy
Revisado: 08-03-23
I enjoyed the early chapters about his upbringing but then it became a book about juggling philosophies that were obscure to this reader. The title seemed promising as we all want more joy but in the end either his overthinking or his newfound faith render joy as unimportant.

Title says it all.
Revisado: 05-26-23
I found it remarkable that so many things in Monty python were not invented by the cast, but were reenactments of events that happened to them earlier in life. Clease's gift is to take the absurdity of his life and make sketch material our of it.
