Historia
From the author of dozens of #1 New York Times bestsellers and the creator of many unforgettable movies comes a vivid, intelligent, and nostalgic journey through three decades of horror as experienced through the eyes of the most popular writer in the genre. In 1981, years before he sat down to tackle On Writing, Stephen King decided to address the topic of what makes horror horrifying and what makes terror terrifying.

A horror review for those who like horror!
Revisado: 04-24-25
A horror review for those who like horror!… and sci-fi. The reader definitely should have at the very least seen and read some of the classics in the genre, or you will likely be listening with the references. But for a true fan, you may realize that you have seen & read many of the works referenced. I find myself as someone who has respect for the genre, and coincidentally, had seen & read enough of the references to understand most of the material… and now I have a list to reference to read and see more!
Interesting perspective on a genre that has a tendency to get dismissed in literature circles.
The narrator was great, he really sounded like what I thought Stephen King should sound like.

Historia
After a cult tried to sacrifice me to their wicked God, I went on the run, doing whatever was necessary to survive. Until a demon offered me a deal: give him my soul and he'll help me claim the vengeance I seek. Blood will be spilled, and the monsters I once ran from will soon be running from me. But damning my soul was just the beginning; it's my heart the demon wants next.

Steamy Demon Romance
Revisado: 12-02-24
Great performances by both narrators. Great voices to listen to as well as incorporating emotion.
The story is like side B of the first book. Same plot, from a different perspective and different romance.
Kept me entertained!

I earned my reputation among magicians for a reason: one wrong move and you're dead. Killer, they called me, and killing is what I'm best at. Except her. The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed–I didn't. The cult that once controlled me wants her, and I'm not about to lose my new toy to them.

Steamy for sure, borderline uncomfortable
Revisado: 11-19-24
I enjoyed the performances, and loved how the story was written from both main character perspectives.
It was a fun dive into the world of demons and witches and the love that can exist in a supernatural world.
The sex scenes were indeed steamy, and certainly appealing to the BDSM community. They bordered on the edge of consensual, but toed the line.

If you love an adventure through history…
Revisado: 09-04-24
If you love an adventure through history, mixed with legend and lore and perhaps the fantastical truth, then this book may be right for you.
It has intrigue, history (lots of history- much of it true), mixed with love, and some great characters.
The performances were great. And it would be fun to see how this could be turned into something visually fun to watch. If done right, then it could be fantastic!

A glimpse into a weird world
Revisado: 07-21-24
A glimpse into a weird world… and by glimpse, a very long and verbose creation of a world that is familiar and just enough different.
There were things I very much liked about the story, and other things I very much felt were cringe-worthy. The cringy bits felt dated, or perhaps, culturally they didn’t translate as intended… or perhaps they were supposed to be that way.
Overall, I enjoyed it. It was a bit long for my taste. The characters were interesting enough. The story as well.

The world outside has grown toxic, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. The remnants of humanity live underground in a single silo. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are given the very thing they want: They are allowed to go outside.

A great read: intriguing world, good pacing, characters you care about
Revisado: 03-30-24
Wool is a great read overall. (And is/being made into a solid show)
The setting is an intriguing world, post apocalyptic, underground, with many details. The story has good pacing, and kept me interested in what happens next. The characters were vivid and I cared about them.
The performance was enjoyable, and easy to listen to, with distinct voices for all the characters.

Historia
Data is fundamental to the modern world. From economic development, to healthcare, to education and public policy, we rely on numbers to allocate resources and make crucial decisions. But because so much data fails to take into account gender, treating men as the default and women as atypical, bias and discrimination are baked into our systems. And women pay tremendous costs for this bias in time, money, and often with their lives. Celebrated feminist advocate Caroline Criado Perez investigates the shocking root cause of gender inequality and research in Invisible Women.

So much I knew, but didn’t know.
Revisado: 02-13-24
Incredible research and point of view that every single woman can relate to in at least one level, or many. It was comforting to have many of my thoughts confirmed, that my experiences were common and supported by data, or lack of data.
I would love to have an update book with any data received post pandemic. As I feel like, maybe/hopefully, there has been some positive shift… but what does the data say? Is there data?
Great read, highly recommend, especially for men in leadership positions.

Fun, and a bit irrevent
Revisado: 09-24-23
I liked the voice of the characters most. The narrator brought the voices of the characters to life, but I loved their voice on the page. The weird, irreverence of how the leads and the kids spoke, and thought, and behaved. All gold.
The narrator was on point with dialects, specific to Tennessee, or at least, I bought it!
Overall, very fun!

What an epic!
Revisado: 01-18-23
I had no idea what I was getting into when I downloaded this novel. And it is a novel, of epic proportions. It’s a fairly thorough telling of the history of Hawaii, condensed or simplified, in some respects to give the telling some artist leeway, but it seems to be there. There are some terms that haven’t aged well, but when the book was written, were the terms used at that time. I learned a lot, and many of the stories/facts that I already knew were confirmed.
The performance was consistent all the way through. There weren’t really any character voices, but the story was interesting enough and clear enough, and long enough, and also spoke for many cultures, that artistically it was probably the right choice to just narrate and not embellish.
Overall, I very much enjoyed it.
