Fascinating, instructive, humorous, entertaining. Incredible book, incredible performance. Andy Weir made science accessible, relevant, and interesting, and provided a fascinating tale seem possible. Highly recommend this book to those open to the inclusion of science in the narrative. Loved the humor wonderfully delivered by Ray Porter!

I loved reading this book decades ago. And I love the narration by John Keating. He not only has superb accents, but delivers the prose in a manner that captures the brilliant humor and irony that captures Irish life, and underscores the critique of power plays by the British and both Protestant and Catholic clergy. This story is relevant today. The calculated corruption and ruthless subjugation of Irish Catholics by the British and Irish Protestants is echoed in today’s political landscape in America where racism, subjugation of minorities, unparalleled income disparity, social and legal injustice are promoted; and gerrymandering, voter suppression, and dark money attempt to keep a corrupt political minority in wealth and power. There is much to learn from this masterfully written novel not only about Irish history, but also about the behavior of human beings acted out over and over again, as the subjugated vie for their freedom and equality, and the corrupt attempt to hold onto undeserved power.

President Obama reveals in an accessible, highly intelligent and insightful memoir the trajectory of his initial entry into politics through his first term. He explains the complexity of issues he faced and his thought processes of coming to critical decisions. I came away with even more respect for the man as he faced so many obstacles to achieving his deepest held goals, yet in spite of the challenges, his integrity, courage, and wisdom led him in most cases to the best decision he could make under the circumstances, even if not all stakeholders were satisfied with his decision. His narration gives an even more candid glimpse into the man, and made listening very enjoyable.

The beauty of such a down to earth spiritual memoir

Alan Arkin speaks in straightforward and down to earth prose about his spiritual journey that makes accessible what might be esoteric to some, yet in which others will find kinship in the stages of the process of awakening to higher consciousness. Arkin creates beauty in simplicity, and offers nuggets of wisdom as he describes the insights gained in his spiritual process. There has for me always been something very appealing about Alan Arkin in the work he has done on stage and screen. I experience it as a level of honesty and transparency that is at once humble, but suffers no fools. I highly recommend this gem.

Barron Steffen has written a raw, immensely vulnerable and revealing account of fully surrendering to love. With what begins with a heart-wrenching tragedy and loss, one is carried through Barron’s poetic, metaphorical, and searingly insightful account of his reeling journey to fully grasping the wealth of his loss, learning and embodying what love truly is. The immensity of his love for his wife demands of him the most lovingly ruthless self-examination, accepting nothing less than total surrender. The seemingly dual commitments of his love for his wife and his quest for spiritual liberation are revealed as one inextricably woven singularity. Particularly in this audio version, read with absolute immediacy, vulnerability and love by the author, I was swept up in the riptide of his journey, fully immersed in the ocean of every emotion and insight. In fully surrendering to and embracing his wife, Seana’s, gift of unbound love, Barron becomes that love, and in this book, shares that love freely with all who read or listen to it. I experienced this book as an ultimate tribute to Seana, her love and life purpose, and a testament to the unparalleled value of uncompromising spiritual practice and application, without which Barron may not have been able to transform a tragedy into a song of immense and beautiful love. This is a book that should not be missed. It is truly a gift of love meant for all of us. Regardless of degree of loss one may have or be experiencing, this book will shine a light on the path onward. I am immensely grateful to Barron and Seana for this gift. Listening to this reading was a transformative experience.
