Historia
In the wake of his parents’ tragic deaths in a house fire, fourteen-year-old Richard Elauved has been sent to live with his aunt and uncle in the remote, insular town of Ballantyne. Richard quickly earns a reputation as an outcast, and when a classmate named Tom goes missing, everyone suspects the angry new boy is responsible for his disappearance. No one believes him when he says the telephone booth out by the edge of the woods sucked Tom into the receiver like something out of a horror movie. No one, that is, except Karen, a beguiling fellow outsider.

Great science fiction story

This was not Nesbo’s usual style but I liked it none the less. It left me guessing/thinking right up until the end.

Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Not much happening
Revisado: 05-19-24
Very neutral on this story. I don’t usually read short stories so maybe that was my problem with this one. I’ve read full length books by Winslow and liked them. No character development. I didn’t get the point of the story.

The plot left me guessing until the end because there were lots of characters who could have been guilty.
Revisado: 05-18-24
I like the narration of the white characters. I thought the narration of the black characters was a little overdone.

Historia
A window is but a piece of glass through which we view the world outside. It is not meant to distort. It is not intended to do anything but show us things as they are. At Oxford, though, there is a very particular window that reveals a very particular view. It is a view that defies all laws of nature and science. And when a detective is called in to investigate, he is startled to find that view opens a window into his own life–and a mystery he has never been able to solve.

Historia
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

Historia
A woman (Alison Pill) finds herself grappling with both grief and anger following the sudden death of her mother and the shocking revelation of her father’s infidelity. Her father (Reed Birney), on the other hand, is just trying his best to verbalize his own complicated feelings about love, loss, lust…and household chores. And the other woman (Marsha Mason) simply wonders: Is she still “the other woman” when the original woman is gone?

This short story plot line was somewhat interesting. If either of your parents had an affair, you would probably relate. The narration was annoying. I could have done without it.

Good audio-
Revisado: 11-16-23
This book’s audio performances were very good. The plot was somewhat mediocre. Nonetheless it is a good story for a good walk since the plot wasn’t complicated and I didn’t have to keep rewinding to understand complex parts of the storyline.
