Historia
Shining Smith stands on the brink of achieving her goals, and yet now she could lose everything. The presidents of four motorcycle clubs are coming to claim blood sacrifice and to ink her with motorcycle club tats. Her new roadhouse and its charter have to meet their approval or the roadhouse has no future, and neither does Shining. An injured kid shows up at Smith’s Junk and Scrap, but collapses before he can speak. A note arrives containing a warning and a plea for help, addressed by someone who knows Shining’s most intimate secrets—her history, her plans, and the names of her friends.

Kate and Curren buy a fixer-upper house and make new friends and reconnect with Keelen, who has become exiled (or banished, as he explains to Curren in his Irish brogue saying that he is a “Flout-law”.)Also, the new friends they meet have problems that they need serious help with. The narrators are marvelous as they bring the tales to life. More, more, please. What happens next ?

Danger: addictive, world-building, fantastic
Revisado: 11-13-17
I would have written a longer headline, but was limited to 50 characters. Unfair.
If you like smart people facing incredible danger on a world entirely unlike our own, who grow as individuals, find unexpected romance, and save the world on a regular basis, then this book is for you. Bujold's imagination, description, and story-telling are only enhanced by Bernadette Dunne's narration.
The best part of this review is in telling you that this (complete, stand-alone story) is the first entry in a 4-book narrative. The adventure continues just as wonderfully. You're gonna love it. This is my “Audible 20 Review Sweepstakes Entry” but I should have written this review much sooner and shared this book with you. Sorry it took me so long.

Great Narrator, but -story, not so much
Revisado: 02-21-17
What it is: romance porn. What it's not: filled with characters who have enough dimension to cast a shadow. I like happy endings, sure, but a story first needs characters I care about. A plot besides want girl(or fella), suffer, get girl(or fella.)
Sebastian York sizzles. His narration is superb. This book has some humorous moments but not nearly enough to re-listen. Best character is 4-year-old Mackenzie who makes out like a bandit with the swear jar into which her uncle is forever stuffing money. Good luck with that pony, kid.

Enthralling, Entertaining, Amusing
Revisado: 12-14-15
Just can't keep from grinning when I think about this book. I bought it in a sale and had no idea what to expect. So glad I did! Sci-fi fantasy with a developed world view that is introduced in bits and pieces as characters enter, a great main character interacting with them, problems abounding of course. Be warned, the humor sneaks up when you're not expecting and you cannot help but chuckle out loud, so maybe not so good as a workplace read. It's the kind of book that reminds me why I love this genre. The narrator Renee Raudman was superb. I am going to look for other books she has read. And best of all, serendipity rules. I just finished this book yesterday and found out the next one in the series is out tomorrow. Gotta go now and reserve it.

Historia
Serial temp worker April Johnson is nothing like her wildly successful brothers. She doesn't have an Olympic gold medal. She doesn't have millions in the bank from a tech company she founded as a teenager. She doesn't even have a place to live, not since her boyfriend snuck off in the middle of the night - skipping out on the rent, his three-legged dog, and her. Now forced to move back home with her mother and grovel for a job from one of her brothers, April decides it's past time she got serious about her life.

Wild child grows up
Revisado: 11-06-15
The third installment of the romantic Oakland Hills series is the first I've listened to instead of read. These books have interesting characters, quirky story lines, humor, and romance (but nothing R-rated). Each book and story stands alone, but the same characters appear in the different books so you see how their lives change.
This installment reveals April's story. The only girl in the family, she's decided to stop being a wild child and get her act together. She's sworn off bad boys and is ready to figure out what to do with her life -- but it's harder to achieve than she thought it would be. And brothers are not the help you hoped would be there for you. At 27, she's decided to become a responsible adult, even if it means wearing tan khakis and giving up her boots.
It's a fun book in a fun series but I liked the first two books more. I think it's because the narration irritated me. The reader didn't talk in a monotone, and used good inflection so maybe it is just me, but it seemed unfailingly light and bubbly. The narrator didn't display the male voices with much emotion or differentiation of sound.

Grumpy Old Sniper/Clerk
Revisado: 04-08-15
What made the experience of listening to Norwegian by Night the most enjoyable?
The Story pulls you in, then the narrator makes it live. Superb narration! At times I wanted to shout hurry up, get to the next scene, because I could hardly stand the tension. But it was worth the wait, the buildup of tension was perfect.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The old man, who made me care about him. He had lived a full life which was unwinding to its end, and we learned about it and him as the story progressed.
What about Sean Mangan’s performance did you like?
Everything about Sean Mangan's narration was excellent. You could visualize each of the characters as he spoke.
Who was the most memorable character of Norwegian by Night and why?
The old ex-marine, because his character was so complex and well-developed. You learned more and more about him as the story unwrapped. But his supporting cast was terrific. I especially liked the leader/partnership team of the policewoman and Peter her subordinate.
Any additional comments?
A book worth listening to again.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

What a grand old man!
Revisado: 06-24-14
Would you listen to The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared again? Why?
I will have to listen again to make sure I didn't miss anything while I was laughing. Okay, I KNOW I was laughing so much that I missed stuff. I also want to soak in the nuances of each delightful character.
What other book might you compare The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared to and why?
Another reviewer compared this to Carl Hiaasen's work (spelling probably wrong) and I think this is spot on.
Have you listened to any of Steven Crossley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First time storyteller for me. Did outstanding job nailing the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES. I tried. When I was a teenager I read Gone with the Wind in a glorious marathon weekend. However much I wanted to repeat that experience here, I ended up falling asleep around 1 am. I am so disappointed in myself. This book is worth sacrificing sleep to experience.

Liam Mulligan is as old school as a newspaper man gets. His beat is Providence, Rhode Island, and he knows every street and alley. He knows the priests and prostitutes, the cops and street thugs. He knows the mobsters and politicians--who are pretty much one and the same. Someone is systematically burning down the neighborhood Mulligan grew up in, people he knows and loves are perishing in the flames, and the public is on the verge of panic.

What's not to love?
Revisado: 03-24-14
Any additional comments?
A hard-boiled newsman who knows he’s a dinosaur in the internet age, but will not let go of his profession, a man who loves women but not too wisely, and a narrator,Woodman-, who gives wonderful insight into the characters--what’s not to love? Mulligan has flaws and the reader can see what lies ahead before he does, but DiSilva’s hero is so likeable and interesting we just shake our head and say ”Mulligan, we coulda warned ya,” and continue on the journey with him. Yep, I’ll be reading further in this series.
