Subchapters please
Revisado: 08-05-22
Organization of content: 5
Dr Kings authentic speeches and sermons: 5
Audible Chapter organization: 3
Audible, please put a little more care into how items are organized on your end. I sometimes just want a Dr. King speech or sermon. I love the intros, but should not have to scroll-guess by hand to find the speech.
This is a digital copy. It is a program. It would not be difficult to hire a programmer to allow for different organization of content.
Please take a moment to think about what would be useful to all listeners and use chapter breaks a little more thoughtfully.
Adding subchapter headings would do the trick.
Not to Audible: I have come across other texts, very long ones, that actually are not worth it due to a failure of having enough chapter headings to navigate through.
This cannot be the definitive King recording without chapter options or subheadings, which is too bad, because Clayborne is awesome and it should be.

There is a saying: knowledge is power. The secret is this. Knowledge, applied at the right time and place, is more than power. It’s magic. That’s what the Black Panther Party did. They called up this magic and launched a revolution. In the beginning, it was a story like any other. It could have been yours and it could have been mine. But once it got going, it became more than any one person could have imagined.

Wonderful Text by Jetta / Dion Graham the Best
Revisado: 03-19-22
It's so wonderful to have this title narrated by Dion Graham. An Audible legend, he brings welcome energy and depth to the text. This is a wonderful book written by Jetta Grace Martin. It's kind of perfect if you want to get the story of the Black Panther Party told in an enjoyable way with arguably the best narrator around. Job well done by everyone.

We understand the stars at a much deeper level, not as legendary figures connected with constellations, but as engines of matter, energy, and the raw material of life itself. The Life and Death of Stars introduces you to this story in 24 half-hour lectures that lead you through the essential ideas of astrophysics - the science of stars. Your guide is Professor Stassun, an award-winning teacher and noted astrophysicist. He provides lively, eloquent, and authoritative explanations at a level suitable for science novices as well as for those who already know their way around the starry sky.

PDF Not Helpful For Visuals
Revisado: 01-14-20
I somehow thought the PDF would contain the visuals. It doesn't. Well, there is 1 image for the first lecture included in the PDF, but 3 have been referenced already in the first 10 minutes and they are not included.
Waste of a credit. Astronomy sensibly references images. Not made for audio.

Ever noticed that trying to calm down often produces more agitation? Or that real fulfillment can be elusive, despite living a successful life? Often, such difficulties stem from the human brain's hardwired tendency to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Modern science demonstrates that this survival mechanism served the needs of our earliest ancestors, but is at the root of many problems that we face today, such as depression, compulsive and addictive behaviors, chronic pain, and stress and anxiety.

Chronic Back Pain
Revisado: 07-06-17
I find the lectures to be more hit than miss. There are some interesting topics, and a fair amount`of time spent discussing generalities. It could be a little more focused on mindfulness practice within particular lectures.
Ronald Siegel, however, lost me in lecture 14 on back pain, which I could not finish. I lost respect for him and do not plan on on continuing. He states, to boldly paraphrase, that the vast majority of people with chronic back pain do not have physical justification for their back pain. He goes on to cite research that justifies this. I'm not saying that his perspective is invalid, but as someone who was laid up for most of a year and unable to walk due to dislocated discs, I found his perspective insulting. I do not believe that I am in the small minority. People physically suffer from slipped discs. Could mindfulness help? Certainly. Does stress play a role? Perhaps. But when people are laying on the ground and holding their back in pain, it's not psychological. Anyone who has suffered from back pain knows this to be true.

A grand addition to the American literary canon, Suttree introduces readers to Cornelius Suttree, a man who abandons his affluent family to live among a dissolute array of vagabonds along the Tennessee river.

Historia
Right from the start, Bigger Thomas had been headed for jail. It could have been for assault or petty larceny; by chance, it was for murder and rape. Native Son tells the story of this young black man caught in a downward spiral after he kills a young white woman in a brief moment of panic. Set in Chicago in the 1930s, Richard Wright's powerful novel is an unsparing reflection on the poverty and feelings of hopelessness experienced by people in inner cities across the country and of what it means to be black in America.

Promethean Vocabulary Course
Revisado: 09-10-16
This course really stands out. It absolutely crushes any other vocabulary learning text or audio book that I have seen. I actually purchased a couple of books and tried a couple of other audio books after finishing this course but they do not compare. It seems that many the books are for people with weak vocabularies, and most of the audio books are too dry. This book is for everybody.
The professor focuses on words that are compelling, yet that most educated people do not know or use. If you are not an expert in vocabulary, which you probably aren't if you are considering this course, then he will impress you with words like captious, treacle, argot, donnybrook, bumptious, malefactor you get the idea. He introduces words with stories, uses them in sentences (of course), and very importantly, explains nuances and differences between related words.
I will definitely be listening to this course again. It's fun to learn new words and impress one's spouse, especially when she has the better vocabulary. Almost every day I would concoct some new sentence trying to show off and it was painfully obvious, but it was fun, and it really helps to learn the words. I only wish that I written them down like he suggested.
Great couple of units on foreign words at the end.

How is it possible that the universe burst into being from the flash of a single fireball? In an age when scientific knowledge is doubling every generation, how do we reconcile the story of the universe with our spiritual roles on Earth? Join noted scientist and author Brian Swimme, PhD, on a journey to the farthest reaches of the cosmos, and learn how this exquisite "molecular dance" of vast galaxies and exploding stars also gave birth to human consciousness and a living earth.

Mesmerizing
Revisado: 03-18-16
If you are at all interested in these topics, just go for it. Swimme presents a refreshing, exhilarating and scientifically sound philosophy in developing a knowledge-based spirituality that demands to a wider audience. A mathematical cosmologist, he knows his science, yet he remains utterly enthusiastic when it comes to interpreting the findings of science for the human race and this planet. He insists that we reorient our cosmology, philosophy and spirituality with the allurement of science.
Now I'm not very good at summarizing his viewpoint, and I was admittedly hesitant to give this audiobook a try because I did not want some pseudo-spiritual New Age garbage. This is anything but. Brian Swimme is in awe of the findings of science, just as he is in awe of the role that we play in the unfolding of the universe. His awe is inspiring in itself, and he is very well spoken. This works in the audiobook because it's his voice with his intonations and passions throughout instead of a third party reader.
This is real philosophy, people. I maintain that you cannot be a true philosopher in our day and age without scientific expertise. How could you? The claim that science has toward truth is far too great to be dismissed, ignored or simplistically incorporated into any philosophical worldview. Philosophy once meant the search for truth. This is what Swimme has clearly given his life to. He's presenting his answers in the human quest for truth that beautifully incorporate scientific, spiritual and planetary aspects. But the science is where it really shines, in particular in regard to the physical creation and expansion of the universe.
As for the audiobook itself, it's actually a series of lectures that Swimme gave, about 45 minutes each. I was not thrilled when I heard this, but Swimme presents frequently enough that his vocabulary is book-impressive and his presentation style is very compelling. Occasionally audience members laugh, but this adds more than detracts from the audiobook experience. Apparently you can purchase the video somewhere as a lecture series, but I didn't feel like I missed out an anything except for maybe one or two images. As a stand alone audiobook, it's simply outstanding.
What a breath of fresh air.

Would you like to know how the universe works? Scientists have been asking that question for a long time and have found that many of the answers can be found in the study of particle physics, the field that focuses on those impossibly tiny particles with unbelievably strange names - the hadrons and leptons, baryons and mesons, muons and gluons - so mystifying to the rest of us.

Inspiring Class
Revisado: 02-20-16
I had a basic (semi-superficial) knowledge of particle physics before trying this course. Now my understanding is much deeper. A lot of astute information is packed into these lectures. This is one of audiobook that I will definitely listen to again. The professor's enthusiasm is contagious, and I found myself frequently looking up topics online for more information. Definitely worth it.
