Historia
Sixteen-year-old Ileth is now an Apprentice Dragoneer, with all of the benefits and pitfalls that her elevation in rank entails. But her advancement becomes less certain after she's attacked by an unknown enemy, and Ileth begins to suspect that someone deadly may be hiding within the walls of the academy. Outside of the walls there is a different challenge. The Rari Pirates are strangling the Vale Republic. What they lack in dragon firepower, they make up for in the brutality of their ever-expanding raids, making hostages or slaves of the Republic's citizens.

Great continuation of the story
Revisado: 02-20-25
I greatly appreciate this second novel in the series and very much hope there will be a third. It’s been great to watch the main character grow, stumble, and find her own place amongst the humans and the dragons of the Serpentine.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Ileth grew up in an orphanage, and thanks to her stutter was never thought to be destined for much beyond kitchen work and cleaning. But she's dreamed of serving with the dragons ever since a childhood meeting with a glittering silver dragon and its female dragoneer. For years she waits, and as soon as she is old enough to join, Ileth runs away to become a novice dragoneer at the ancient human-dragon fortress of the Serpentine.

A tale after the Age of Fire
Revisado: 09-16-24
I was happy to be able to return to the world and dragons from the very excellent Age of Fire series. EE Knight has skillfully shown how this story set long after the Age of Fire weaves in elements of the original 6 books without rehashing them. EE Knight creates great protagonists, especially outcasts. Ileth is delightful, savvy and strong. Her trials as a house guest / prisoner of war dragged on a bit, but otherwise her story kept my attention and me rooting for her. Cannot wait to listen to Daughter of the Serpentine and I hope there will be a third book coming out soon. Thanks for the great story EE Knight.

Historia
Martin Cruz Smith has written nine previous novels featuring Arkady Renko, one of modern detective fiction’s most popular characters. These novels, beginning with 1981’s international sensation Gorky Park, have collectively traced Russia's evolution over the last half-century. Now, with Independence Square, Smith focuses on the fraught and frenzied days leading up to Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine.

Historia
Long ago, much of the population of an entire planet fled their world before its sun went nova in thousands of ships, each one larger than a city. Now, the armada has arrived at the world they intend to make their new home. They regard the fact that the planet is already colonized by humans as a mere inconvenience, and their mode of communication is so different from anything humans use that they do not consider humans and their allies to be truly intelligent.

Lame enemies
Revisado: 12-06-22
The alien race that our protagonist face are, perhaps the lamest of the series. The Arachnids were mindless killing machines, but at least they were scary. The Thebans were oddballs, but had an interesting backstory. The war between the human homewotlders and those who lived on the rim was interesting.
These bald, golden, tentacled psychopaths are intensely boring. I find myself wanting to skip through any of their narratives. Mainly, I stuck around for the space battles.
The narrator, Marc Vietor, saves this book from being dreck.

I started listening to the Saxons Stories 15 years ago, Uhtred of Bebbanburg has kept me company countless commutes to work. Over the span of 13 books, I got to listen to his story from his childhood is elder years and hear the story of four kingdoms become the single kingdom of England. It was a great ride! Thanks Bernard Cornwell

Historia
It is May 1706. Ana, a young Spanish woman, lives in a small town on the north-west coast of Tenerife with her mother and twin younger brothers. The town is in the shadow of a mighty volcano, which legend says has the devil living inside it. However, there has been no eruption for thousands of years, and no one believes it is a threat. One day, Ana notices that the air feels strange and heavy, that the birds have stopped singing. Tending the family vineyard, a sudden strange tremor in the earth frightens her.

Revisado: 06-01-22
I listened to the Audible version of this quick read short story and thought it was great! Lots of history woven in with compelling characters and plot. It described events in the Canary Islands that I had never heard of until this reading this. The authors words and the narrators voice were a great combination.

Historia
In the winter of 1952, New England was battered by the most brutal nor’easter in years. As the weather wreaked havoc on land, the freezing Atlantic became a wind-whipped zone of peril, setting the stage for one of the most heroic rescue stories ever lived. On February 18, while the storm raged, two oil tankers, the Pendleton and the Fort Mercer, were in the same horrifying predicament. Built with “dirty steel,” and not prepared to withstand such ferocious seas, both tankers split in two, leaving the dozens of men on board utterly at the Atlantic’s mercy.

A lot of details
Revisado: 06-14-20
I had to seen the movie which was the succinct, exciting retelling done and only a few hours. I think this may be one of those rare occasions where the movie was better than the book.
The full length story was interesting but it’s six hours dragged on with streams of details and names and places. To me, the story has really reached its dramatic / climactic conclusion with the rescue. But it felt like there was another two hours of minutia.

Historia
Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: These kids aren’t attention-seeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren’t passive, permissive pushovers. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach to parenting.

Worst narrator I’ve ever heard
Revisado: 01-07-20
This narrator sounds like she’s flunked out of the William Shatner school of acting where she feels like she has to pause and over pronounce every single word. She poorly tries to imitate children’s voices and sounds like some kind of creepy 40-year-old baby child. I absolutely could not stand listening to her and had to stop. On the other hand, Dr. Ross Greene’s information is excellent and I will be looking for another version with a different narrator. I honestly have no idea how this woman could’ve possibly been selected as a narrator, just atrocious.
