Historia
Hollywood Park is a remarkable memoir of a tumultuous life. Mikel Jollett was born into one of the country’s most infamous cults and subjected to a childhood filled with poverty, addiction, and emotional abuse. Yet, ultimately, his is a story of fierce love and family loyalty told in a raw, poetic voice that signals the emergence of a uniquely gifted writer.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

Important for white people to hear!
Revisado: 06-17-20
The content of this book was well presented and really made me think about my own biases and actions. However the narrator sounds like a robot. I legit had to check to see that a real person narrated. It didn't ruin the listen though; I highly recommend this book!

Cute, light hearted listen! Some parts seemed like they were dragging, but let's be honest, I think quarantine is messing with my concentration!

Fun mix of true crime and paranormal

Overall I enjoyed this book. Some parts were predictable and some parts dragged a little, but it was fun to indulge in every murderino's crime solving fantasy.

Historia
Raised in isolation by her mother and Maeve on a small island off the coast of a post-apocalyptic Ireland, Orpen’s life has revolved around training to fight a threat she’s never seen. More and more she feels the call of the mainland, and the prospect of finding other survivors. But that is where danger lies, too, in the form of the flesh-eating menace known as the skrake. Then disaster strikes. Alone, pushing an unconscious Maeve in a wheelbarrow, Orpen decides her last hope is abandoning the safety of the island and journeying across the country to reach the legendary banshees.

Horrifying and beautiful
Revisado: 01-31-20
This book has a really nice balance of meaningful storyline and action. The narrator was wonderful to listen to, especially if you love Irish accents! Good endings can be hard to pull off with zombie or otherwise apocalyptic storylines, and this one didn't disappoint.

Historia
David and Ellie didn’t realize how much they have missed their friends, two other couples who had moved out of their modest neighborhood in a desert city for the comforts of the suburbs, until the day of Donald Trump’s election. Separated also from their daughter who lived hours away in California, they were in a funk. But, when Ellie discovers a repellent offering floating in the small Jacuzzi in their backyard, David is blindsided. Little does he know this is but the first in a chain of grisly events that would play out in their lives with devastating consequences.

Just Fine

I was pleasantly surprised that this takes place in Tucson and I appreciated the references to local places. The story was relatable, and funny at times. However I was really hoping there would be more to the story; maybe my expectations were too high for a short story.
