Plot was amazing and performance was perfect! I’d write more but I’m dying to start second book in the duology! I will say this… Nightshade is a book you should read if you enjoy dark, time-bending, dimension-traveling, epic, romances. Just wow!

I absolutely loved this book, even if it did have me in tears on more than one occasion. IMO, it was as good as the first book in the series, which I’d always considered the best one. I enjoy learning the backstories of the main character, and to find out what shaped Haymitch into who he became was extraordinary. So powerful! And the bag of candy scene near the end… just wow! Not only did Collins outdo herself with the plot and writing of this one, the narration was outstanding. I so hope there’s yet another backstory in the future… whether it be about a main or supporting character. While I liked Snow’s backstory, Haymitch’s made me fall in love with The Hunger Games all over again and I want more!

I LOVED this book! It was witty and funny, yet had deep emotion written so well I could feel my own gut clinch at Rachel's pain. The moment I finished listening, I hopped onto Audible to find the next book in the series and was so disappointed that only the first book was recorded. Sigh. Oh well, Lipstick and Lies and Deadly Goodbyes was good enough I'll head back over to Amazon to pick up a copy of the e-version because I have to find out what happens to Miles and see if Rachel ends up trading in the louse for Collin. If you like vampire stories with the perfect amount of snarkiness (and, Hollie Jackson gave the perfect delivery, BTW), you must try this book! Five enthusiastic stars across the board!

First of all, as a fan of The Hunger Games (and dystopian stories in general), as well as most vampire novels, I really enjoyed the concept of 'Chosen', the first book in The Immortal Ones series by Shade Owens. Even though much of the storyline in this book is quite similar to The Hunger Games (the different divisions, instead of districts, producing a specific item for the benefit of President Crane as opposed to President Snow, and has defenders rather than peacekeepers, along with a teenaged girl chosen by lottery who's ready to take down the system), this story, for the most part, does become its own... and it's good.

That said, Silver drove me to the edge of insanity. I almost gave up listening 3 or 4 times. The overall plot itself is what kept me going. While the narrator did fine, I'm unsure whether her delivery helped make Silver so annoying (because I think it might have emphasized how clueless Silver was... about anything and everything). Silver had to be the dumbest main character in all the many, many books I've read (or listened to) which made her unlikeable. That fact alone would've kept me from going any further with the series, except for the reviews of the second installment of The Immortal Ones, which assures Silver isn't nearly as annoying or clueless in book 2. Therefore, since I'm curious just how Silver and the camp of girls training to take on Olympus (sorry if it's misspelled; I listened rather than read the book) will fare, I'm gonna give it a shot.

So, here's the deal. If you can handle a main character who stupidly questions literally everything... for example (and I may be paraphrasing by a word or two): 'maybe I shouldn't have asked,' or 'maybe I shouldn't have done that,' et al. No duh! How many times were you told not to ask or not to do that?! ... then I would recommend 'Chosen'. However, if you can't abide seriously clueless main characters (even though they are supposedly destined for great things), you might want to give this book a pass.

I've now read and listened to every book in the world of Nyaxia, (Sorry for the delayed review!) and I have loved each one. The plot and writing are phenomenal, the worldbuilding amazing, and the characters so well developed that the reader actually feels like they knew Oraya and Raihn personally. I can't wait for the November release of 'The Songbird and the Heart of Stone', the next book in The Crowns of Nyaxia series, focusing on Mische. While it is officially book #3 in the series, a couple of others in the world of Nyaxia are also stellar: Six Scorched Roses (a novella) and Slaying the Vampire Conquerer. Author Carissa Broadbent, I didn't think I'd ever find another series I loved as much as ACOTAR by 'Sarah J. Maas' or Jennifer Armentrout's 'Blood and Ash'... but you've made it a 3-way tie for first on my list of very favorites!

Talk about heartwrenching love and sacrifice and breathtaking action! I have thoroughly enjoyed every book in the Crowns of Nyaxia series (they are so compelling!) and have become a huge fan of Carissa Broadbent. I seriously hope there will be still more stories told in this world… whether they star Oraya and Raihn or Sylina and Atarius or any characters Broadbent brings to life. Amanda Leigh Cobb, by the way is perfection as a narrator!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series as the individual books were released and might not have purchased the dramatized adaptation if the first book hadn't been free. I'm so glad it was and that I took advantage of it because I LOVED the full-cast version! The performances were superb... especially the performer who had the role of the main female character (Alyssa Keegan?). It just doesn't get any better than that! A really, really good book made outstanding! I'd totally recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. I've already bought the dramatized adaptation of Raised In Fire, Book two of the series and can't wait to start listening!

I loved it all… the plot, main characters (what girl wouldn’t want a Rhysand?!) and the narration. While it took me a minute to get used to a new narrator earlier in the series since the inflections of Amanda Leigh Cobb were quite different than the one who narrated ACOTAR, I especially enjoyed her narration of ACOFAS. This, btw, is my third time through the series. That’s how good it is!

I’d read Afterlife as an e-book a few years ago on kindle and when I ran across it on audible recently I thought why not? I’d liked it well enough before and was looking for something new to listen to each night before I go to sleep. I’m still hanging in there with it but am not sure I can stick with it to the end. Narration for main character is more than fine but narrator’s voice for other characters kind of grates on my eardrums. Not only is it difficult to differentiate most other characters, but those ‘voices’ tend to be rather unpleasant and kinda sound like they have a lisp or something. Also, the pitch of the narrator’s voice is high enough that, in my opinion, it simply doesn’t work well with male voices. Especially when they’re written as ‘macho’ men. My best suggestion is read rather than listening.

I didn't think I'd ever find another series that could (in my opinion) measure up to Sarah J. Maas' ACOTAR, Jennifer Armentrout's Blood and Ash, or Carissa Broadbent's Crowns of Nyaxia but Robin Mahle and Elle Madison have done exactly that. I loved everything about the Lochlann Feuds. Rowan's character was refreshing (and her cryptic humor was delightful!) And Evander? I want one! The character development was amazing and the world-building was so, so good. I loved how everything you could want in a book was included... the enemies-to-lovers romance, the suspense, the backstabbing, the battles, the emotions it wrought, and, at the end, the HEA. And I fully appreciated that while the books were better for having had them, the heart-crushing arcs weren't dragged out interminably. Again, just wow! As to the narrators... positively superb! I doubt anyone could've done a better job than Olivia King. She literally made the characters come to life with impressive accents and distinctive voices for each character. (Not to take anything away from the male narrator in the Obsidian Throne... he did a great job as well). A very hearty five stars (and I wish I could give this series still more stars)and my highest recommendation! I am definitely a new Mahle and Madison fan and now plan to read (although it's in reverse order) The Lochlann Treaty (because I'm not ready to leave this world behind)!
