Great stories
Revisado: 06-06-24
Really good series to listen to. I liked the Poirot stories, but I liked the longer stories as well. Although it is obvious that the Poirot character is based on Sherlock Holmes and the sidekick Capt Hastings based on Dr. Watson. Even the way Capt Hasting doesn't understand of figure out certain things and then Poirot chastised him for it, is straight out of Sherlock Holmes treatment of Dr. Watson. Buts still good stories.

Forget George R.R. Martin, Erikson is the Man
Revisado: 05-03-13
If you could sum up Gardens of the Moon in three words, what would they be?
Engaging, Adult, non-pedantic
Who was your favorite character and why?
There are two many characters to love in this book, though if pressed, I would have to go with Cropper. "Because all stories start with Cropper."
Any additional comments?
This is great book. Lister is a great narrator. Erikson is a great writer. I muddled through George R.R. Martin's over ten part series, and while it kept my interest for the most part, I have never read a series of books where I rolled my eyes so many times at the dialogue. If I hear one more "wool-headed sheep herder" or other juvenile put down, I will scream.
But Erikson writes for adults, and treats the readers as adults. But even more, the story lines are just amazing and largely unpredictable. And with the exception of Cropper, none of the characters are "over the top", though in Cropper's case there is a good reason for it.
Anyway, my only challenge was weather to use my monthly credit or just pay for it and use my credit on a more expensive book.

Historia
Newly elected, Jack Ryan has found that being President is not easy: domestic pitfalls await him at every turn; there's a revolution in Liberia; the Asian economy is going down the tubes; and now, in Moscow, someone may have tried to assassinate the chairman of the SVR - the former KGB - with a rocket-propelled grenade. Were the potential assassins political enemies, the Russian Mafia, or disaffected former KGB? Or is something far more dangerous at work here?

Save your money until they re-do with new narrator
Revisado: 02-21-11
I have been listening to audio books, in one medium or another, since 1990, and I can say that this narrator should retire.
I seen other reviews for other books where people have said the narrator was horrible. But I still got the book because I liked the author. But although the narrator was bad, I was able to muddle through.
But Michael Prichard is 10 times worse. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's like he doesn't even care. He just reads the words so he can get his paycheck.
If you don't believe me or think I'm just being cruel, just look at the reviews for some of the other Clancy books that Prichard does. I'm not the only one that finds Prichard unbearable.
And to the publisher, if you are wondering why repeat sales of the Clancy books are so low, this is why. Please find a new narrator to redo the Clancy books. I love Clancy, but I'm not sitting through another book read by Prichard.
