Historia

Disappointing narration
Revisado: 02-14-21
One would expect that the narrator would learn the correct pronunciation of Italian names, but it didn’t happen in this case. It’s disappointing and a bit frustrating unfortunately.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Historia
In the medieval period, how did religious women and men put into words their intense - and intensely personal - devotional practices, visions, and experiences? And how did those efforts to articulate mystical experiences comport with church doctrine? You’ll rejoice in this fresh approach to the mystical tradition, grounded in history and letters but elevated by the mystery of the soul. A natural and energetic speaker, Prof. Fee sets every aspect of his subject ablaze. You’ll find his enthusiasm infectious.

Horrendous performance
Revisado: 04-20-20
Perhaps his in class lectures are worth while, but it’s utterly painful to listen to him with all the ehm uhm in between, and his narrative is dull and non engaging. He’s been teaching for years and he can’t read Latin, nor pronounce foreign names/words, how’s that possible? Terrible.

In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Mention the name Niccolò Machiavelli and you might unleash a powerful response-even among people who have never read a word of his writing. The word "Machiavellian" conjures up images of an indistinct figure quietly making his way through the darkest corridors of power; a cold-blooded political liar; or a coolly practical leader - amoral at best - willing to do whatever is necessary in a world governed not by ideas of right or wrong, but by solutions dictated by realpolitik.

I could not finish it.
Revisado: 02-19-19
It was such a good narrative up to the last two hours. I don’t think the Dictatorship that is running the European nations now is exactly what Erasmus has in mind when he hoped for a European Union. Surely the Erasmus program for students is a positive, but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the economic and demographic disaster that it has developed into for many nations. Perhaps the union started with the right intentions, but it has fast became nothing but a corporation run by bankers and multinationals on the skin of the rest of the Europeans. For a book that started so well there was no need, really, for this kind of propaganda.

Historia
Having founded the bank that became the most powerful in Europe in the 15th century, the Medici gained massive political power in Florence, raising the city to a peak of cultural achievement and becoming its hereditary dukes. Mary Hollingsworth argues that the idea that the Medici were enlightened rulers of the Renaissance is a fiction that has now acquired the status of historical fact. In truth, the Medici were as devious and immoral as the Borgias - tyrants loathed in the city they illegally made their own.

Good story, bad narrator.
Revisado: 01-07-19
Good piece of history with some info not generally found on history books. I wish it had been read by someone else. Dreadful narrator, bad pronunciation of Italian names, bland voice that is irritating at times, and at others puts you to sleep. I couldn’t finish it. I purchased the printed copy, I think I will enjoy it much more.

Many of us know the Black Death as a catastrophic event of the medieval world. But the Black Death was arguably the most significant event in Western history, profoundly affecting every aspect of human life, from the economic and social to the political, religious, and cultural. In its wake the plague left a world that was utterly changed, forever altering the traditional structure of European societies and forcing a rethinking of every single system of Western civilization: food production and trade, the church, political institutions, law, art, and more.

Painful
Revisado: 12-17-16
There are books that you miss when you finish them, but this is not one of them. I'll have to listen to it in small bites. Although informative, the style in which this course is narrated is not for me. The sound of the voice going up and down every two or three words is unnerving to say the least.
