Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Great science, great story, fabulous narrator
Revisado: 02-16-25
I’m not a scientist, but it’s clear that Andy Weir did his research in this caper on the moon. I loved the smartass protagonist and was thoroughly entertained all through.

Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Solid, entertaining listen

I enjoyed the book! It had the kind of witty (but not forced) dialogue reminiscent of
Emily Henry books. Narrator was fantastic.

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Good story, narrator sounds like Snagglepuss
Revisado: 01-19-25
This was a great installment in the Gamache series. I know she wanted a Quebecoise narrator, but he pales in comparison to the previous two. There are ments in which he sounds like Snagglepuss from the cartoons… just bizarre.

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Fantastic story and listen
Revisado: 02-17-24
As always, Geraldine Brooks delivers a well-researched, beautifully written and imagined novel. The story of the black grooms and trainers who built the wealth of the thoroughbred horse racing industry in the 19th century is particularly interesting. I can perfectly picture the paintings of Jarrett and Lexington, and the affection and respect between the two, thanks to Brooks’ skilled observations. All of the narrators were skillful. Highly recommend!

Historia
Maine, 1789: When the Kennebec River freezes, entombing a man in the ice, Martha Ballard is summoned to examine the body and determine cause of death. As a midwife and healer, she is privy to much of what goes on behind closed doors in Hallowell. Her diary is a record of every birth and death, crime and debacle that unfolds in the close-knit community. Months earlier, Martha documented the details of an alleged rape committed by two of the town’s most respected gentlemen—one of whom has now been found dead in the ice.

Great historical fiction
Revisado: 12-30-23
Really interesting glimpse into the life of a small Maine town in the late 1700s, told from the perspective of a midwife and healer. Turns out the Puritans weren’t all that different from modern Americans - lots of premarital sex and shotgun weddings. Well written and plotted - definitely worth a read!

Historia
When bookish young American Sylvia Beach opens Shakespeare and Company on a quiet street in Paris in 1919, she has no idea that she and her new bookstore will change the course of literature itself. Shakespeare and Company is more than a bookstore and lending library: Many of the prominent writers of the Lost Generation, like Ernest Hemingway, consider it a second home.

Even the slobbering affection of Big Jim's loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis, fails to cure Big Jim's debilitating malady.
