Historia
For Samantha Gale, a summer on Martha’s Vineyard at her family’s tiny cottage was supposed to be about resurrecting her career as a chef, until she’s tasked with chaperoning her half-brother, Tyler. The teenage brainiac is spending his summer at the local library in a robotics competition, and there’s no place Sam, who has dyslexia, likes less than the library. And because the universe hates her, the library’s interim director turns out to be the hot-reader guy whose book she accidentally destroyed on the ferry ride to the island.

Historia
Lina Meisel, a retired librarian in Florida, is reading the newspaper one morning when she freezes. Her eyes lock on a photograph of a book she hasn’t seen in 65 years - a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II - an experience Lina remembers well - and the search to reunite people with the texts stolen from them so long ago. The book in the photograph is one of the most fascinating cases.

Good book…
Revisado: 03-09-22
The Lost Girls of Ireland by Susanne O’Leary was a fun book right up to the last chapter but the last chapter tried to put a bow on everything all at once. I wish it had ended in a way that left me wanting more. This was a good book that deserved a better finish.
So far I believe this is a four (4) book series, maybe when it was first written it was not going to be a series. I am going to read the second book in this series next. I am hoping the ending is better.

Historia
Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is not what dating columnist Cleo Wilder wanted, but she plans a solo retreat―at the insistence of her boss―in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some self-care while she figures out the next steps in her love life and her career.

Revisado: 02-20-22
A Sweet Mess by Jayci Lee is a sweet rom-com about two Korean’s that meet by accident in a town of no other Korean’s. There is a lot of descriptive cooking and wine drinking so don’t read this book while hungry. It is a fun, quick read. Overall, I liked this book.

So far this is my favorite book of the year.
Revisado: 02-09-22
The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray is a fantastic historical fiction. The fact that this book was based on true events makes it even more incredible, both is a good way and a bad way. Belle got her dream job but at a steep cost. This story is timely being Black History Month and an important glimpse into black history all be it from a black woman posing as a white woman. I was fascinated by the story of JP Morgan as well as Belle’s story. The book is more about Belle than JP Morgan but obviously he plays a large role in her life so therefore this story. Belle is an inspiration to all women as she shows not only can a black woman do the same job as a white woman but that a woman could do the job at all in those days was truly inspirational. I loved reading about all of the art and books she procured (some of the art and places I have seen myself so there was a special tie there too). I would highly recommend this book. So far this is my favorite book of the year.

Needed to be edited by half…
Revisado: 01-31-22
Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty is a twisted who done it that is very odd. The first half of the book is all about character development, the next quarter of the book is the actual who done it part, and the last quarter of the book begins with telling you exactly what happened and then goes on to finish character development by updating you about each character in the book. Very odd in deed. I like who done its but this one I can’t honestly recommend as I just could not become a fan no matter how hard I tried. I wish her editor had edited half of the book away, as there was soooooo much fluff, not just fluff but unnecessary fluff. Sorry for the poor review but this is the nicest I could make it. Keep in my this is just my opinion, maybe you could like it.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Great memoir
Revisado: 01-09-22
The Storyteller by Dave Grohl is a wonderfully written memoir. I loved how it depicted his life from a young kid to present. He can really paint a picture with his words and is quite funny to boot. I loved how he kept the common thread of “People inspire people” throughout the book. He also has a line “In a world full of Barbie’s every girl needs a Jone Jett” is awesome. He is clearly an awesome father of three girls, and loves every moment of it. He has had a really interesting life and I’m not just talking about his days in Nirvana, that was actually not a large bit in this book which it turns out I appreciated. I would highly recommend this book.

Great book…
Revisado: 12-23-21
People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry was the Goodreads #1 Best Romance book for 2021 and I couldn’t agree more. I feel like I know the two main characters and am sad to see the book end because I will miss them. It is uniquely written and clearly paints a picture of every place they are at. Figuring out who we are and what makes us happy can be difficult but it is a part of growing up. For some letting go of the past is a big part of letting go and moving on. Great book. I highly recommend it too.
