I absolutely loved this book. I have yet to read a Jennifer Joy book that I have not enjoyed and I specifically enjoyed the addition of a sweet and sassy puppy to the mix! have listened to this version too many times to count, on long drives, doing the dishes, etc and absolutely love the depth of Stevie Zimmermans voice narrations! in my humble opinion she does the best Darcy voice, so deep and sultry while still able to get a good range for male and female pitches.

Back to Jennifer Joy! I love that her writing style can be relied on for it's clean and sweet content. This by no means translates to "dull' as she is able to create swoon-worthy moments to get your pulse racing while still keeping in character with what would be expected for the Regency Gentlemen and Lady. This is another book of Jennifer Joy that I loved so much that I had to purchase a print copy to add to my collection of favorites!

I struggled to finish this book and deeply regretted wasting my money on this. I have absolutely LOVED every other book by this author and found this one to be severely lacking. I knew going in that it was set in the Wild Wild West and I thought I would be okay with that and was eager for some possible adventure. But I was too shocked by some of the less than desirable circumstances that Lizzy was faced with early on in the marriage. *SPOILER alert below *

While I loved a different book by a separate author that had Elizabeth tending to a severely wounded Darcy, I guess I just couldn't stomach the fact that E had to "assist" with D in his toileting. "Misissh" of me, I know, but I just felt like it was too degrading.....and rather than a sweet nurse moment, it just killed any thoughts of romance.

*Spoiler alert end*

And then, add to that the extremely frustrating fact that they took FOREVER to actually talk things out...too much angst for me. He really did take her for granted for much to much of the book for my taste. I actually stopped with less than 2 hours left because I didn't feel like it was worth it. I think I might ask for my money back...

Also not helpful was probably the narrator, but that's probably more my fault than hers given that I have become so used to and enamored with Stevie Zimmerman that anytime it's NOT her I am disappointed.

I REALLY struggled to finish this book and debated several times whether to simply return it as it was incredibly frustrating and I wanted to throttle both Darcy and Elizabeth's lack of communication. It wasn't until the last 45 minutes of the book that they FINALLY started to talk about all the misconceptions. I guess I should congratulate the author on causing such a stir of emotions but I prefer less angst in my JAFFs. Hours of listening in torture could have been spared (and MONTHS of unwedded bliss for ODC) had they SIMPLY SPOKEN TO EACH OTHER!!!!!! The most satisfying moment was Darcy punching Wickham in the face (sorry for the minor spoiler) but perhaps it has more to do with how irritated I was at that point that ODC couldn't find the courage to address one another. Where was all the witty banter?? I definitely will NOT be listening to this one again.

Probably the only reason I actually was able to finish is due to the lovely as ever narration by Stevie Zimmerman. Other than that, if I could go back in time, I wouldn't have bothered.

To be fair, I didn't finish this book, I barely got an hour into this book and decided it was not for me. In what world would Elizabeth even entertain accepting an offer of marriage where she wasn't deeply in love??? And Darcy seemed almost creepy and possessive. Again, I didn't get very far, so I don't know if the book gets better but I was immediately turned off by the uncharacteristic behavior in the beginning. I normally love a good JAFF but this just seemed too off the mark.

I admit I have struggled to finish this book and debated whether to simply return it. I've read many JAFF and am obsessed with all things P&P/JA but I felt that these characters were so unlike the original Darcy and Elizabeth that I've come to love. Darcy seems almost stalker-like, jealous and controlling with a temper that to me is almost alarming. Elizabeth seemed like a weaker more "damsel in distress" version of herself. I absolutely love mysteries and for this reason alone I kept trying to finish the book. But the addition of so many other non essential characters to the book and complete deletion of others weirded me out too much, rendering the original Canon almost unrecognizable. I have about 4 hours left and I don't know if I will finish...
I will say the narrator is awesome as always, which accounts for my use of higher stars than just 1. Aside from the creepy serial killer, the book is pretty clean which I appreciate. But this book does have a darker, more sinister feel.

I struggled to finish this book, I had expected much better from this author as I have thoroughly enjoyed the Bess Crawford series. Unfortunately, I read the terrible reviews only after I had purchased the book. Even the narration made the book difficult to get through.
