Not at all like anything I've ever heard. Its not a book in the sense that its so utterly personal and direct. She artfully weaves in her songs (from age 19 on). She is a trail blazer and supporter yet she achieved balance in her life. She's an auto didact able to learn all the skills she needed to direct, act, sing, you name it.

She is a strong and magnanimous woman who has been the target of nasty rumors and untuths her entire life. No more. This 'book' corrects the record. Because Barbra saved EVERYTHING so she's got the proof.

And, yes, she had her dog cloned. I just listened to all her albums (Live at the Bon Soir when she was so young is my current favorite) and I'm rewatching her films in a new light.

And before all this, I didn't really give Barbra Streisand much thought.

My friends and family will be appalled to find out I like Elon a whole lot more having finished Isaacson's biography of him.

Elon is reckless but not soulless. He's a boy genius who has never had to grow up. And because he functions best in a perpetual state of chaotic immaturity (i.e., siring many children with different women, installing fart sounds in his early Tesla, posting impulsive and shocking tweets he soon regrets), we reap the mind-boggling benefits of his highly curious mind (and the curious minds of those he employs). Think Tesla, Starling, The Boring Company, Solar City, Space X etc.

Its key to Musk to take really big risks in order to ultimately succeed really big. This is in stark contrast with many other engineers and physicists who play it safe, are complacent. All the while we hear a Greek chorus warning us of frightening predictions that Armageddon is coming straight at us accompanied by terrified cries that we ‘aren’t doing enough to stop it.’

I was at TED when Elon was interviewed on the stage some years ago in Vancouver. He was asked ‘why he is putting his focus on Mars and not Earth?’ My recollection was, after a typically pause, he said ‘I don’t think its my job to save the world, I just don’t want to feel sad about the future.’ So says the richest man in the world.

Smokey Daniels tells the story of how to keep kids curious thru inquiry. It felt like it was mostly about lower elementary however not upper. In upper most compelling inquiries help kids understand nuance and contradictions as they develop to realize that all is not black and white.

I’ve been listening to the NYT for years on audible. It’s a perfect digest. I have it before breakfast every week day.

Wright tells a very believable tale of the spread of a devastating, fatal pandemic, weaving in well-researched historical details. The main character is Dr Henry Parsons the lead virologist at the CDC who travels the world to understand (and sometimes create) viruses. His family, colleagues and others he encounters on his global journey to track down this new virus help fill out the story. It recalled for me The Road by Cormac MacCarthy and his apocalyptic message. Somehow End of October is more hopeful at least for the salvation of the Earth. The narrator, Mark Bramhall, is perfect as Dr Henry Parsons and he manages to bring to life a huge range of Wright's characters as well.

I have a very personal response to Amsterdam. I live in Brooklyn, I'm a Quaker and my people came over from Holland in 1650 to New Amsterdam working for the Dutch West Indian Company and settled in Brooklyn, So I am thrilled to be further enlightened about all these historical connections in very rich context. I'm also traveling to Amsterdam shortly (for the 3rd time) and will have a much greater understanding of this unique city as a result of Shorto's book. One missing element, however, are the visuals. There are many referred to in the narration but not included as a PDF. Audible usually includes PDFs when appropriate. Perhaps just an oversight. I went to Amazon and looked at them in the print version. And I bought a print version. It's that good a read.

I’ve had the Times read to me by Mark Moran for years and years. Very well done. I feel very connected to the news of the day. I have a digital subscription to the Times as well. I feel it’s important to support the US ‘paper of record’

Why are civic engagement and education important in a child's life? Scott Warren has a unique perspective to share as a young person who grew up all over the globe. Yet he is simply a down-to-earth self deprecating human being who knows that all kids can grow can play an active, important role in improving our political future. He has applied his substantial accumulated knowledge and connections to develop Generation Citizen, highly thought of organization for high school students in the USA. He also makes it clear that civic engagement and education are not often being provided in our schools' curriculum and daily lives.

Warren weaves in many historical stories of people who could have seen themselves as powerless but by taking a stance, showed their power. Some I know and some details of well known stories were added. And he tells his own endearing story throughout the book. The book is well-read to us by Graham Halstead who, one could imagine, might sound much like Scott Warren so it feels authentic in the telling.

A true American Dream and proof that this is still real and possible. Mich, as we learn to call her, is vulnerable yet determined to grow up, As we listen and she reads to us, she becomes her authentic, strong and empathic adult self. I cheered for her and grew to love her even more.

This is a book all should read who want to truly understand Americans who were brought to our shores as slaves. Who started their lives with huge built in deficits because of the color of their skin. If you can, read the epilog first so you understand the lengths Wilkerson went to make sure this book was as objective and accurate as possible. It's a life's work. It's depth and breadth provide rich explanations of the moral tragedy of Africans in America in many different rich ways. And how much we should appreciate the survivors of slavery for their contributions, their struggles. I've lived in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY for 35 years. I could be seen as an early gentrifier except I became absorbed by my community in a way gentrifiers don't. Many of my neighbors are blacks who came up from the South. Warm, caring and generous people. This book has helped me understand my neighbors far better than I ever have before. Beautifully narrated by Robin Miles.

My one complaint is the technical production. Unless it's just my iphone, it seems to be uploaded twice. 116 chapters?
