Historia
In 1984, at the age of 20, Duff McKagan left his native Seattle - partly to pursue music, but mainly to get away from a host of heroin overdoses then-decimating his closest group of friends in the local punk scene. In LA only a few weeks and still living in his car, he answered a want ad for a bass player placed by someone who identified himself only as "Slash." Soon after, the most dangerous band in the world was born. Guns N' Roses went on to sell more than 100 million albums worldwide.

In order, Rock and Entertainment genre mindset books...
Revisado: 08-26-20
Duff’s book was probably longer than needed, but, overall, the quality made up for any editing trims that could have made it even better.
If you are in the biz, and or an entrepreneur - you need to listen to the following STAT!
#1 - Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Total Recall
#2 - do Gene Simmons, THEN Paul Stanley’s audio books (Kiss and Make-UP, and Face the Music... and Paul’s 2nd book Back Stage Pass also)
Then!
#3 - do Duff’s book - It’s So Easy, and other Lies
After this book - do Ozzy’s book.
These books are all GREAT - and provided, for those who pay attention - insights into what sorts of work and subjects you should be doing yourself if you want to make it in Entertainment.

You are shortchanging your ride in LIFE if you haven’t listened to at least one Paul Stanley book.
Revisado: 06-15-20
It’s simple... Paul Stanley “gets it”...
And he GETS IT at the level of someone who has been forced to spend a lifetime of soul-wrenching question asking about how it all works.
Bless your SELF and check out one of his books... it may save you some time coming to the same conclusions on your own.
Why repeat a lesson someone else already learned, IF you don’t have to do it with pain?
Gene’s books are also outstanding. I look froward to having them at KO STUDIOS here in Miami one day, or on my podcast or tv show.

Historia
"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Why stop at 21 years?
Revisado: 05-30-20
James Taylor’s reading voice is nice to listen to, and there are moments in the story that are interesting...
like when he hit the guy in Britain with his car, and it turned out that he actually ended up helping the police arrest that same guy, whom they were already chasing... BY hitting him, and escaping arrest himself in that experience!
But overall, I don’t think that most folks who aren’t already James Taylor’s music fans will get as much as he had hoped out of this book, as formatted and released.
For those who are into biographies of musicians in general, it is interesting, but not profound, and the ending feels abrupt and after spending over an hour getting to him being “21 years old”, I’m assuming, based on the title of the book...
I think, as released, the book flopped the ending, and should have continued on with what he did with the next 30+ years of his life, along with his anecdotes and insights...
The aspect of this book I enjoyed most were the insights on his personal views, which he sprinkled here and there, as a result of his life’s experiences.
In retrospect, there should have been a lot more of that, and this book should have probably not been released as packaged, truth be told, but instead, completed, with more of his insights, personal views, and stands and positions on things... on through at least 50+ years old.
This book left me feeling like I probably should have been spending the time on another book that would have offered me more value in both entertainment and insights, in the “books by famous people” genre.
By comparison, the books by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Steven Tyler, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Ozzy Osbourne were all orders of magnitude more rewarding. If you love famous musician stories, or actor stories, try any of those, and you will be thrilled you did.

Great introduction to how to CHEAT people’s MINDS into keeping their attention for your songs ;)
Revisado: 05-26-20
This was an enjoyable audible book and I’m glad I bought and listened to it.
For those with a strong Psychology background, many topics, as the author rightfully states, will be refresher for you...
BUT!
For many professional musicians, without having additionally a strong psychology background, this book would be a great introduction and slap in the face to getting them out of the whole - “artists-only” style writing and their constant need to create and show “themselves”, while feeling like, for most of them, no one “gets them” - and stead, show them that perhaps the issue is not as much “others” but they are not writing in a way that keeps an audience’s attention...
In other words... maybe they are cheating music that doesn’t connect, so why not learn that... THEN get upset if once connected no one likes your message ;)
Great introduction to how to CHEAT people’s MINDS into keeping their attention for your songs ;)

Bookmarked only 10 or so clips after over 13 HOURS
Revisado: 05-19-20
The sections on the actual numbers behind income from music were extremely useful, but the majority of the book is more emoting than riveting, and more like having a conversation with a long-winded friend than pragmatic...
Some insights and gems are in there, but I bookmarked less than 10 or so clips from over 13 HOURS of listening...
Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Steven Tyler’s books were all much more engaging and more useful for the professional musician.
This book will really only be mostly interesting to the academic “armchair” music geeks, who just desire to consume everything about music, in general, that they can, and can weather the boring sections of this book, between its gems being found.
