Historia
In 1982, 10-year-olds Jenny and Sarah are best friends living in an upscale part of Washington D.C. A letter to Soviet Premier Yuri Andropov gets Jenny a visit to the USSR, but she dies in a plane crash. Years later, Sarah gets a letter from Moscow suggesting that Jenny is still alive. You Are One of Them is a taut, moving debut about the ways we define ourselves against others and the secrets we keep. In this insightful forensic of a mourned friendship, Holt illuminates the long-lasting sting of abandonment and the measures we take to bring back those we lost.

Slow, not entertaining
Revisado: 08-04-23
I listen to audiobooks to entertain me while I do boring tasks around the house or at my job. This one was just slow not super exciting. I didn’t hold my attention. I also had to be careful who I listened to it around due to some language and awkward conversations that occurred in it.

Difficult and insightful
Revisado: 07-23-23
This is an interesting book that I would never be able to recommend due to all the language and sex. Every other chapter is a flashback, and it flips from third person to second person. I think even first person. It helped me get a grasp on thought processes. I like my books with more redemption. There was a glimmer of hope, given at the end, but not enough.

Wolf of the North: It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be. Jorundyr's Path: Jorundyr's Path is walked only by the brave. As Wulfric pursues Adalhaid's Blood Debt, he soon learns that the path to revenge is never easy. The Blood Debt: A blade fit for a hero. An army for a tyrant. A reckoning long awaited, and a tale reaching its end.

Thoroughly enjoyed it
Revisado: 06-30-23
I like large epic fantasies. Brandon Sanderson is probably my favorite author. I found this to be enjoyable and fun, fairly clean, and a little violent. I think the only thing that brought it down a little for me was the focus on revenge, and how almost everything was done by the main character for revenge. I would be curious to see how the story would’ve changed if the main character had grown past his need for revenge.

Can't decide if narration helped or hurt
Revisado: 10-01-18
Oh ugh!!!! This book, which I only got part way through, maybe an hour or 2, set my teeth on edge. Nothing pleasant or relatable, I didn't care about characters; the number of times the author used the word "mommy" was truly annoying. The inner angst of the main character reminded me of middle school girls drama. I didn't expect sophisticated, but I did expect entertaining, maybe a laugh, this has very few redeeming qualities. Maybe if you enjoy soap operas this would be better.

Historia
A debut novel already praised as "unbearably poignant and beautifully told" (Eimear McBride), this captivating story follows - over the course of four seasons - a misfit man who adopts a misfit dog. It is springtime, and two outcasts - a man ignored, even shunned by his village, and the one-eyed dog he takes into his quiet, tightly shuttered life - find each other, by accident or fate, and forge an unlikely connection. As their friendship grows, their small seaside town suddenly takes note of them.

felt pointless
Revisado: 08-09-17
It is all a guy talking to his dog. The summary was the most exciting part. I thought it'd be about relationships, plural. Really it'd just about a guy telling about his boring life to his dog. they run away from home at one point, by even that got boring. The main conflict was how to handle the fact the dog attacks others, and there was no resolution to it. Man's perspective was interesting for about a quarter of the book. mostly my expectations were that something would happen, had I known this was a book more about memories I may have enjoyed it more.

Clinging to the last shred of fuel and hope, she arrives at the mansion of Texas billionaire Conrad Ayer. like splenda
Revisado: 10-14-16
This narrators voice is not so great, too breezy for my taste. The writing felt like cotton candy...super sweet with no substance. When the female protagonist accidentally fell into the male protagonist it was commented that she weighed very little, it felt like a weightless butterfly. The rich people were almost all self centered and obnoxious. Children who have had horrible things happen to them are still very sweet and never do anything wrong. There were some good lessons, like realizing important and urgent aren't the same thing, but overall not a well written book or nice narration.

I have always loved princess bride, and it is my husbands favorite movie as well. we had a blast listening to this book. Well narrated, well paced and so much interesting information. He speaks highly of everyone, so it's not a gossip fest. there are so many tidbits of information and I felt like part of his little film family. I honestly just wanted to give everyone a hug after finishing the book. I wished it wouldn't have ended.

laughter tears and anger
Revisado: 05-27-16
What a wonderful book. Told in a delightful and unique way. I thought this would be a fairly standard story, but was pleasantly surprised. Three characters are given voice to tell the continuing story. As Ricky aged his voice changes, which is perfect. The book deals with crimes against Jews, why so many hated them, kidnapping of children, the resistance, the camps, various reactions and emotions. It was so very good. the beginning caused me to laugh a lot as young Ricky dealt with a new baby sister, the middle made me want to fight, and the ending made me cry. Excellent story.
