As always, I love diving into the universe that Alastair Reynolds imagines. John Lee reads the book well but I find him lacking some time/inflection in some parts.

The story itself seems to develop in a more metaphysical and fantastical way than the other books in the series. Not all bad, just different.

Some of the plot and tech abilities seemed to bend either on the "Yeah right, not in a million years!" to the "Oh my God why don't these people do the obvious!!!"

The end was not as unsatisfactory to me as other people made it out to be. I will be back for more :)

this book was an interesting glimpse into the future. The storyline was good but not great and parts of the book felt a little rushed. I enjoy the details on the technical capabilities of the future and how he seems to make the world of tomorrow seem plausible.

First half/book was great. The second had a terrible long building phase and a plot that I was able to see coming from about mid-book. Still an entertaining read overall.

This book was a nice change of pace for the series! I thought that the previous two were a little bland and feared that there was no 'fight' left in the saga. This book proved me wrong.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot caught me by surprise in spite of the fact that I was so sure I had unraveled the remainder. The narration was great and the writing style pleasant. My only criticism is that the characters are introduced in a roundabout way that may have some readers rummaging for pen and paper to take notes. Because of this emotional attachment to the characters comes on slowly and details are easily muddled.

If you loved the first two books you'll most likely enjoy this one too. I've just read them all back to back and to be honest it has left me feeling weary. The character dialog and performance get a 10. The story gets something of a 6. I have a hard time turning off my critical thinking skills sometimes for the enjoyment of this series. The characters seem to be thwarted by obstacles that time traveling wizards just shouldn't have any trouble in overcoming. The plot tends to develop a but too slowly as well, and sometimes it feels a bit flat. Otherwise it is a pleasant and light hearted experience.

I really enjoyed listening to the book. The banter between characters made me chuckle frequently and kept the book moving at a nice pace. The narrator captured their personalities exceptionally. The story was light and fun and I was able to imagine myself in the story.

My two gripes:

1. I tried to remember that this was a light hearted pseudo fantasy novel, but I couldn't help see obvious solutions for the many obstacles presented to the characters. This gave me a feeling similar to watching a bad horror movie where you find yourself yelling "don't go upstairs your fool!!!" at the TV. Had these characters been real hackers/programmers the story would have gone much differently.

2. The plot did not contain a substantial amount of depth. The story was light hearted and fun but the characters have little depth and the plot was a bit linear.

In closing, I really enjoyed this book despite its shortcomings and am already working on the sequel.

I loved everything about this book. The story was light enough to be easily digestible, yet dynamic enough to keep my interest. I thought the writing style was fantastic and so was the narration.

This is the second volume of Sherlock Holmes that I have listened to narrated by Edward Raleigh. in my mind his voice is that of Watson and Holmes. Such a unique voice to read a true set of classics.
