Historia
Nicolle Wallace's third riveting insider Washington novel tells the story of single day in the life of America's 45th President, Charlotte Kramer. The day commences before sunrise with more than a dozen news crews "embedded" with the president, vice president and the White House senior staff to chronicle a typical day at the center of American political power. While the president is delivering a speech in downtown Washington, D.C., the day takes an unexpected and terrifying turn when multiple terrorist attacks are reported from five different U.S. cities. With the cameras and press corps closely watching her every move, the president navigates the ongoing threat to the nation she loves and has vowed to protect and defend. The explosive events of the day force President Kramer to confront long-simmering tensions among her senior staff and within her immediate family.

Lackluster story
Revisado: 06-04-16
The characters were not well developed in the story about the first woman U.S. President who also experienced devastating terrorist attacks. The story was interesting however it was hard to stay involved because there were too many characters that were underdeveloped.

Very basic ... Might be good if you're 25?
Revisado: 09-01-15
I was disappointed in the book ... The ideas were obvious, the examples questionable, the narrative grating... Overall I had a really hard time justifying the time to finish it. The author states as one point that due to the Internet there is little cost to publish your intellectual property .... Well just because it's published doesn't mean you should spend your valuable time reading it. This is quite possibly the worst book I've read in years

Historia
Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life, including boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies, he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door.

Historia
It's a summer's evening in Amsterdam, and two couples meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. Between mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of polite discourse - the banality of work, the triviality of the holidays. But behind the empty words, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened. Each couple has a 15-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families.

An interesting read but not the best
Revisado: 07-30-13
This book takes place over a dinner hosted by a famous politician for his wife, brother and sister-in-law. It's narrated from the brother's point of view. The family keeps up pretensions all while a dark secret slowly emerges over the course of the evening. It has some humor, it's well written, the narrator is good, and the plot is unique and fresh, but it was just not that entertaining or thought provoking.

Just Awful
Revisado: 07-30-13
I tried hard to like this book but ultimately found no redeeming value. The advice was sometimes ok, often impractical, and occasionally ridiculous. In a nutshell relax, look into the other persons eyes, and speak slowly. That's about it. Please save yourself respect, career and friendships by not following the more outlandish advice this book offers. Better yet, don't buy it at all.

Historia
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

Lovely compelling story of hope lost and redeemed
Revisado: 08-18-12
Harold Fry's 600+ mile walking pilgrimage across England from Kingsbridge on the Southwest coast of England to Berwick-upon-Tweed on the Northeast coast starts humbly and slowly ... and so does this intriguing story. Harold's journey is as emotional as it is physical and evolves along a jagged path as he explores and comes to understand the essence of what we really need - be it other people or physical comforts and moves from being emotionally bereft to a place of new hope. The book picks up speed and comes together in a thoroughly satisfying way - I gasped a couple of times as the truth of Harold's life revealed itself. Very highly recommended.

The powerful debut novel from Alan Brennert, Moloka’i tells the story of Rachel Kalama, a seven-year-old Hawaiian girl who contracts leprosy and is quarantined on the island of Moloka’i during the 1890s. Separated from her family and forced to grow up in the leper colony of Kalaupapa, Rachel experiences intense isolation. But she remains strong, finding moments of joy, and even love. Rich in Hawaiian history, this novel proves itself a stellar piece of historical fiction.

Interesting but the story occasionally dragged
Revisado: 07-24-12
What did you like best about Moloka’i? What did you like least?
Moloka'i was a fascinating story about a young girl who contracts Leprosy and is exiled to the Moloka'i Leper colony. It tracks her through the rest of her life and describes the challenges, experiences, and sacrifices made by those native Hawaiians who contracted the disease. I thought the story moved too slow on occasion and was anxious to get on with it in the middle .. but the end picked up and I felt the story ended well. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in the subject matter.

Any additional comments?
Really enjoyed this thought provoking book. I found the story to be fascinating and entertaining. I finished the book several days ago and find myself still thinking about the story. I noted that some other reviewers did not like the performance but I thought it was excellent. I never tiered of the narration - Janet Song's style was perfect for this Chinese story line and I really thought she was excellent for this genre.
