Overworked narrator tells an at times promising if not bloated story

Overall the story is fine and if you like Warhammer this is probably and important one. that being said I am a bit disappointed with the overall experience. Robert Rath is a great writer, but I feel this task was a bit much for him this time. there are far too many characters with too frequent jumping between them. furthermore the poor narrator tried his best and his overall narration is quite fine, but his voices leave much to be desired. several of his male character voices are quite good, even a couple great. however his female voices , of which there are many, leave a lot of to be desired. Overall it's a long and overly complicated narrative that needed more than one narrator.

I listened to the first book and almost DNF several times. I hated Junco (and still do, sue me.) She's angsty in a teenager way and I feel like a 13 year old girl wrote her.
HOWEVER, the last hour of Book One was jarringly good? so I picked this up. Was not disappointed! It's never going to win any high literary awards and Junco is still Mary Sue. At least this book is enjoyable and creative. I never thought about rage quitting this book. So, if you can stomach the first, the second is worth it, I promise!

This is not my usual genre, so I may be a bit harsh. This book is written like a young adult novel, complete with Mary Sue protagonist. She is angsty to to extreme and I found it hard to like her.
However, when I realized a little too late exactly how unreliable a narrator she is, and that nothing she knows or feels can be taken as fact, the book changed for me. It's silly, but viewing our main character as a militant dementia patient (which is technically true) instead of your standard, sane protagonist made everything make a lot more sense.
It didn't fix Junko's "I'm good at every weapon ever and everyone automatically likes me and I adjust to having wings and living on a new world with relative ease" thing, but it makes the plot make more sense.
The big climatic scene at the end of "book three" was honestly great. I hadn't been intending to continue the series, but that may have changed my mind. We'll see!

well performed, well translated, well written. and to think the authors had to fight for 8 years to just get it published.

great story! love the "not everything different is bad" message. that being said, I would like my food thoroughly vetted before I ate it. idk what made the corn huge or the cow bald, and I'm not eating it until I know.

we all know the hobbit is a good tale, I won't waste your time on that. what I will say is Andy Serkis was an incredible performer for this story!! when we got to the part with gollum, I was listening to it with earbuds on and it was a whole different experience! very chilling!! 10/ 10, one of the best audiobook experiences I've ever had.

not like any other Poirot story. very cheesy, very over the top. worth the listen though, and expertly performed.
