Too over the top
Revisado: 08-16-24
The narration did not appeal to me at all, feeling over done and pressured. The characters met fell in love and went to bed in the first chapter. I couldn't listen to more....I like a little more character development and suspense in the storyline.

Historia
Widowed Lady Sylvia Elton is out to save young ladies from the terrible fate of love and marriage. Her former husband has retained his reputation as an honorable and loving man in death, but Sylvia has privately mourned his lies and infidelity. Joined by two equally scorned and cast-off friends, Sylvia establishes the Mismatch Society. But nothing prepares Sylvia for the Viscount St. John, a familiar face and her most formidable challenger.

Not what I'd hoped
Revisado: 05-03-21
The story was entertaining and the characters interesting but the sexual encounters were unrealistically public and started way too early in the story to build any realism. I didn't care for the narration much; I have heard Alex Wyndam narrate before and was really looking forward to hearing him again, but his narration here was sing-songy and bland, much like his counterpart. I almost had to stop listening half way through...

Historia
Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury's to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne'er-do-wells by night. Now there's a new item on the list. He needs an heir - which means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicar's daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that she'll do.

Nice Diversion
Revisado: 03-14-21
The story was somewhat unique but a bit predictable. There are a lot of lines that made me laugh out loud, very witty and saucy, and made me wish I knew the characters. There seemed to be a few potential story lines throughout the book that were just left dangling and unrelated to the book overall, for example the ladies trip to the bookstore and the exchange between one of the ladies and a new character that never appeared again. I suspect he may appear in a sequel, but there should have been some other consequence of that trip to tie it to the story because it came off looking like "filler". The ending with the Duke's return to society felt unfinished and the consequence of his "crime" was never resolved; there could have been another chapter devoted to that to help the reader with the jump to the epilog. As for the narration, I had a little trouble separating some of the character voices, especially the male voices, and one of the women sounded very much like a man in comparison.

Historia
When kidnapped English heiress Zoe Lexham daringly escapes from captivity, her problems have only begun. After 12 years in a harem, she knows far more about erotic practices than how to conduct a proper conversation in civilized parlors. Enter Lucien de Grey, the Duke of Marchmont. Lucien is no knight in shining armor; he's cynical, easily bored, dangerous to women, and utterly indifferent to popular opinion. But good looks, combined with money and title, make him welcome everywhere.

Pleasant was to spend an afternoom.
Revisado: 11-27-19
Interesting to listen to. Not the typical story line, and the plot was not as simplistic or ridiculous. ot w as, of course, predicatable. Narration was pleasant. I did get tired of so many sentences beginning with "he said" or "she said". If the writing and narration is adequate, we can all figure out who is saying what.

Historia
Elementary school teacher Jacqueline "Jacks" Morales's marriage was far from perfect, but even in its ups and downs it was predictable, familiar. Or at least she thought it was...until two police officers showed up at her door with devastating news. Her husband of eight years, the one who should have been on a business trip to Kansas, had suffered a fatal car accident in Hawaii. And he wasn't alone.

At Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast, a young Victorian amateur palaentologist, Charles Smithson, is struck by a solitary figure standing at the far end of the Cobb, staring out to sea. Although Charles is already engaged to a young heiress, he is immediately beguiled and eventually infatuated with Sarah.
