The audio bumped up the rating for me
Revisado: 02-10-25
❗️ 4 solely for my audio rating.
I’ve never read an Alice Feeney book before, but I’ve heard great things about her writing. I can confidently say this was one of my most anticipated reads. I chose it as my physical copy for my December @bookofthemonth. It sounded intriguing, promising, and I was excited for it to be my first book by Alice Feeney.
I was a little bummed because I wanted, so badly, to love it. It’s a slow burn with such eerie, weird vibes, and an island — loved that! The vibes basically have you waiting on the other shoe to drop. I was super engaged with the first half of the book, but I was losing interest in some of the second half. However, I feel the audio helped bridge some of this gap.
One of the plot twists just didn’t do it for me. It didn’t make sense, and I’m almost positive it would’ve been figured out prior because of the surrounding environment at that time. Another plot twist was…weird, but ugh I don’t know, it didn’t really hit the spot for me. I guess because I understood a few motives, but not all. It’s difficult to talk about either of these dislikes without revealing too much.
I struggled with my coffee cup rating because of my losing interest/audio bridge predicament. I finally decided to round my rating up to a 4 solely for my audio rating. The duet narration was well done! Without the audio consideration, I would definitely side with a 3. Now that I listen to audiobooks a little more regularly, some books are better listened to and, to me, this is one of them.

Henley Holloway is my boss’s daughter, and I’ve been assigned to mentor her. The problem is, I’m not looking to babysit anyone. But I’m determined to make partner at the firm, and this is the final obstacle in my way. So, I agree to take the little princess under my wing. I’ll work her so hard, she’ll beg me to leave her alone. But from the first day she walks into the office and spills scalding hot coffee on my chest—I’m intrigued.

Great start to the series!
Revisado: 01-25-25
This was a fun start to the Rosewood River series. I really enjoyed Henley and Easton + loved seeing their romance surface. They were fun, had great banter, and had the best chemistry!
Let’s note - the gossip column is such a fun addition to everything! Total Gossip Girl vibes and I’m living for it!
🎧 I also did a read along with the audio. As always, Andi Arndt and Connor Crais performed amazingly. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a duet narration with the two of them together, but I was pleasantly happy with their duo performance!
I’ll be catching up on the Magnolia Falls series while excitedly waiting to read more of this one!

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College – Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is – unless she betrays the man she loves.

SO GOOD.

I finished 𝘐𝘳𝘰𝘯 𝘍𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘦 last night, and I couldn’t have timed it any more perfect. I’m repeating myself, but as I stated with Fourth Wing - the graphic audios gave me life. SO GOOD. I went to bed totally unwell after finishing it. Like, literally laid there for 5ever feeling wrecked. I freakin cried. What!! That doesn’t happen very often. I’m so glad I had all of today to process my thoughts, theories, and feelings while preparing for Onyx Storm. Seriously, it all consumed every free thought of mine today. I love this series. Love love LOVEEEE it. I’ve been joking it’s basically my whole personality right now, but for real - if you haven’t read this series yet, please do yourself a favor and read them asap.

I was eight when Nathan moved away. He was my best friend. My only friend. My safe space. And then he was gone. And my life turned into Hell. But I survived. I broke free and made a life for myself. And I tried to forget about the boy who grew up to be Nate Waller, the famous retired football player. I really did try to forget. But then I opened the door, while working at a client’s house, and he was there. Standing before me. My old friend. My unwitting confidant. My Nathan. Except… he doesn’t recognize me.

Don’t miss out on this audio!
Revisado: 11-08-24
Christian Fox brought the perfect amount of gruffness + emotion, and Andi was a perfect Rosie!
Agh. Omg. S.J. Tilly delivered with Nate and Rosie!! All the amazing adjectives + feelings. Just all the things! I couldn't put it down once I started it. It totally and utterly consumed me.
I loved Nate and Rosie. THE LETTERS. Ughhh...I teared up when Nate read them. His reaction was heartbreaking. It brought allll the feelings to the surface. Their story was an emotional journey. It was heartbreaking but also leads to many heartwarming moments. It was also sweet and had just the right amount of spice. The sexual tension was delicious! So. Dang. Good.
I love S.J. Tilly's writing. 💘

I had really high expectations…
Revisado: 11-03-24
Ehhh… I had really high expectations for this book, especially seeing (mostly) good reviews on multiple platforms.
It was very surface level, and repetitive in some areas. I pushed through reading it because I was wanting to give it a chance and hoping for it to get better. Ultimately, I was extremely underwhelmed.

This is a collection of creepy short stories. The collection was fun. There were some stories that felt super rushed (short stories, I know, but still).
