Almost gave up on book 2 of this underrated gem…
Revisado: 11-18-22
A great sophomore continuation - Enjoy the sci-fi while still grounded on earth around our time. I identify the most with that kind not the far fetched thousand years million miles type. It’s well performed and is an engaging story. If you like that type than make sure you get book 1 first.
First! To garner author and editor et all’s attention - I think is listeners or at least me deserve to know why a change of performers?! Mr. Skelley is good, even above average as I have heard him before but what happened to Luke D who i am sure you agree is in top rung with Brick, Bray and Porter. I understand things happen - but it is an adjustment a reader/listener does not like to make since we identify the story, characters etc with the performer. Could anyone else do Mayberry’s Joe Ledger other than Porter? Maybe an extreme example but was it Mr. Daniels didn’t want to, was it financial ? Was it authors, editors choice and why ? It can’t be a timing thing because both of you would make it work if that was the only reason. So just want to know… i think and hope I have made a strong case as to why we deserve to- ok…

Veracity in Science Fiction
Revisado: 08-13-22
Too many science fiction books/stories are either based solely in space, far from our earth, thousands of years from now or in galaxy similar but not having any basis in our existence. I am a science fiction believer - but not of the type above. SciFi ought to have its roots on earth and or with human influence or involvement in order for people to connect and enjoy the story. If not then it’s science fantasy, not fiction, for those that do not want to have a connection to our reality - they want to be far from it, and that’s fine, but that’s not science fiction. That is Fantasy, more recently VR is now making the same distinction. Do the masses want to escape it all and go to Mos Eisley Cantina or maybe use the veracity of our reality but make it better, broader and expansive - this is What the The Signal is…. Our present, with potential alien influence using, AI and VR but rooted in the human struggle or existence. It is a unique story that once it starts unraveling …we’ll, it was a lightbulb moment for me. I look forward to more of the story….
Thron is a good solid narrator and I hate critiquing performers as it’s so subjective rather than a book itself - it needs a more prolific performer. I say this because after 400+ audio books when I am picturing Phil Thron rather than the character that becomes a problem. We never want to see The great Oz, or even the director of a movie in the scene, it just doesn’t work. I had trouble knowing who was who, was that Bill or Steve or was it the sister?…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Scott Brick should do every book…it would be nice to here Wayne June; He seems to have disappeared. Porter or Bray yes, but also Berman,Hempel, Skelley, etc.

Revisado: 04-07-22
Enjoyed the juxtaposition of the detail of all things army, navy and marines with the spiritual battle that they are faced with. Both are complex but simple at its base , good vs evil. The authors do an exceptional job of interweaving it all without neglecting the story itself. Narration was great. Keep them coming - these are my favorite type to listen to/read.

Intense! More interpersonal drama this time, little less action but G.H. And S.B. get away with it since X is a very 3d character. This series can go forever and I hope it does. I have listened to and have been moved by them all. Thanks !

Good, odd, unsure, box of chocolates= S.King
Revisado: 08-08-21
The book is interesting. It seems to have a depth beyond me on one hand, and on the other hand it's a simple story that is multifaceted. Therefore, you can see the irony. Stephen King provides us with a myriad of plots and people in every book recently. Some books are purely and wonderfully a thriller-horror-character study. Then others seem to just not really fit into a category like this one. Sort of an antihero, nice guy pretends to be dumb but isn't who is a hired killer on his last gig then saves girl. I kept waiting for more to come or be revealed but it never really happened however I still overall enjoyed the book. We simply are not guaranteed a clear plot nor direction with King- then so be it.

Revisado: 05-04-21
Frustrating. But overall a good book. Why do they have a female performer, a very good female performer, do a males roll the entire time? I just had a hard time with it. I'd still recommend a book it's a great story and other than that aspect was well done.

DONT MISS THIS!
Revisado: 07-19-20
PRETTY CLOSE TO GREAT! if you enjoy suspense, mystery , light horror then get this and pay attention. It has elements of Stephen King but the author stands out on his own and one can sense he writes from the heart, The prose can be a little over zealous at times but the right narrator was chosen. The story is original but if you read The outsider by King then you will appreciate this one.
Both a rich and velvety Narrator and Premiere Novel that needs to stop flying under the radar. It deserves more credit then it has.
Enjoy!
