Tom Hanks!

I wasn't sure when I saw that Tom Hanks was narrating but the reviews convinced me to give this book a try. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire listen. Tom Hanks is now my favorite male narrator. The story bounces around a lot but he does such a great job with the narration that the timeline is easy to follow.

The ending is fantastic!

I really enjoy Kristin Hannah's writing. I started with The Nightingale and I fell in love with her style. I moved on to The Great Alone - and I was pleasantly surprised by her ability to weave an equally fascinating story while being set in a completely different culture and time. I then listed to Night Road and again - I was impressed. I was excited to move on to this story. I found the beginning to be almost unbearably slow. If I wasn't already familiar with her style and the potential for it to improve, I would have stopped listening. After 6 hours - the real story finally emerged. The book picked up the pace and it gripped my attention for the last 8 hours. She brought the feel of The Nightingale together with the modern characters of Night Road. Definitely worth your time and struggling through the beginning. However - if you haven't listened to her other books yet, I would start with The Nightingale or The Great Alone first. Powerful and moving

This story is beautifully written and flawlessly narrated. The story brought me to tears numerous time's and made me feel as though my heart was in my throat. Such a powerful narration of what it must have been like to survive the war...and not only for those in the camps. I'll remember this story and recommend it to you.

An eccentric but lovable friend

I really enjoyed listening to this story. Eleanor grew on me as I continued to listen. I especially enjoyed watching Eleanor's friendship grow with Raymond. It had its sad/depressing moments, but she was so genuine, that the sadness didn't take away from the book. It was simply part of her story. I loved this book and will recommend it!

Entertaining!

I found the first hour of the book a bit slow and I found myself losing interest. That being said, I'm glad that I stuck with it because it certainly picked up the pace and ended up being an excellent listen.

The book wasn't as funny as I was hoping it would be. I found myself waiting for it to end because I was bored. I really loved Tina Fey's book, Bossy Pants, and I went into this reading expecting something similar. But it was interesting to learn a little more about the two authors and get a glimpse of their likes and dislikes.

Tears fell several times

And that is only because the author wove this story so beautifully and allowed the reader/listener to feel as though they knew and understood the protagonist. The research was incredible, the multi-levels of plot were fascinating, and the raw heart & emotion were deeply moving. I loved this book and I will continue to recommend it to others.

Surprising and smart

This book griped my attention. I found myself thinking about the characters and plot when I wasn't listening to the book. It's a smart book with thought out twist and turns. I highly recommend this book for your credit. Enjoy!

Excellent!

What a wonderful book! I really enjoyed Trevor Noah's narration of his story. Numerous times I found myself laughing out loud. He wrote in a manner that really allowed me to envision what he was describing. Such a delightful book! Enjoy!
